Well i finally had a chick hatch sometime this morning after 1 am thats when i fell asleep lol, anyways i believe it is going to be the only one i candled the other 6 and no movement in any of then, they were all vial going into the lock down, but it seems only 1 made it out, and remember these were all store bought trader joe fertile eggs, and who knows how long they were refridgerated for but here is a pic i named it Snowy, as it is winter time and it is all white ( white leghorn).

LaSombra- YAY!!! :-D
Bock Bock- What a cutie! And I'm sure it will be spoiled!!! I have leghorns and love how self sufficient and reliable egg layers they are! Plus when they're chicks they are still very social! You will enjoy that one.

Question for everyone- when do you all switch from paper towels to shavings? I have shavings UNDER the papertowels now, but they haven't found it yet...

I use paper towels for about 4 or 5 days, in the small tote brooders. I don't put shavings under them, and have to change the towels at least 2 -3 times a day. It's a real pain! I am always happy to get them into the larger brooder with shavings!

my little one is lonely, being the only one to make it. She wants my to hold her all the time...

I just put 5 eggs back under my broody since she doesn't seem to want to stop being broody. She's healthy and gets out of the nest every morning for her necessaries so I think it should work out.

Anyway, in 3 weeks, "she" won't be so lonely, hopefully... well, more like in about 6 weeks cause they have to be able to go in together...
