Official "I Love Silkies" Thread!!!

I KNEW that was a boy!

Everyone, you all have such BEAUTIFUL silkies!

I lost my baby girl a couple of days ago, my splash silkie Spruzzata (the one I dyed pink for my avatar). We still don't know what happened, she just died. Was fine when my dad went to the store, dead when he came home. Less than an hour. I was out of town. He felt horrible, like he had done something wrong. I still feel horrible. That silkie was my first chicken, my absolute favorite. Shes the whole reason I got into chickens. I miss her so much...

I'm sorry.

I remember your Pink Silkie thread. Every time I see my Silkies I think of that thread. What a beautiful bird. I'm sorry for your loss. My favorite Polish randomly died last year. For seemingly no reason. She had been so healthy one minute and when I went outside to feed the flock, she was just limp. Rigor mortis hadn't even set in yet. I know what that's like. A year later and her demise still evades me.

I love silkies because they are the most ADORABLE, CUTE, FLUFFY, and AWSOME chickens ever, the don't fly, and you can cuddle with them. I have had only one silk (last summer) named Snow White

[my most favorite chicken EVER!!!!!], but we had to give her to a friend of ours. Thankfully, I still get to visit her once in a while!!
I really am obsessed with silkies

This is my two baby silkies, Clover is the black one and Lavy is the blue (i think blue) taken about 2 weeks ago. I am pretty sure Lavy is a cockerel (bummer) but he is sooooo sweet. I got him at n. Ca. Chickenstock to keep Clover company. They are really starting to bond now. He is quite the talker, though. Never stops chirping and making soft trilling sounds. He and Clover sound like doves when they are content. He also sleeps with his neck outstretched. I have never seen a chicken his size do that, only little babies.

This is my EVIL ROO, Roovie. I raised this beast as a 2 day old chick and he is sooooo mean. He attacks feet and ankles constantly. Luckily I have a very dominant BR named Pebbles who will go after him if he attacks me

I am grooming Lavy to be my nice NEW rooster. Any tips on how to keep him sweet will be greatly appreciated.

One of my four Silkie chicks is dead - found it drowned in a water container in the duck house - it managed to get through a gap in the door at the bottom - I haven't stopped crying yet - buried my baby in the garden yesterday, I have now boarded the area and won't put any water in the containers until night time when they all go inside to their "houses".

Rest in peace my poor sweet baby - sorry Maman Silkie, I'll try to be more careful in future - gotta go as I can't see the keyboard for my tears - I feel so guilty.

You are not to blame! Don't feel guilty! It isn't your fault! Chickens aren't the smartest animals on the world.

Don't blame yourself! I know how it feels to loose your silkies. Believe me! I lost 3 Silkies this year! All of them were my babies!
