Official "I Love Silkies" Thread!!!

Right now I just have egg layers. As an adult, this is the first time I have owned my own flock. When I was a child-teenage years my father and I had two silkies (male and female). By the end of the year we had a dozen. They are great setters and they are also great protectors. On my street in the late 90's, there was a string of burgleries. My rooster (the eldest and meanest) was on my back porch. He saw two strange men come up and try to get in my house. He started to attack them both. Well the neighbors heard all the ruckess and called the cops. The cops came arrested the two men, and they had to be sent to the hospital. THey had lots of cuts.

Silkies are great. In another year or two I might get some.

We have some silkie babies. Two white and two brownish. Now I see what they might grow up to be like and I guess they might be kinda cute

Thank you for your kind replies - I still have three Silkie chicks and Mum and Dad Silkie so I am lucky in that respect - yes - Fluffy Puffy - they are stupid but soooooo cute and lovable - so sorry to hear of your losses!

I got my first silkies today

a splash,white, and a tiny little blue... there so sweet and have great personalitys! My mom and I where watching them, two were takeng naps and one was just peeping away.My mom started singing a lullaby, and the little peeping one whent right to sleep.The cutest thing ever!!

I only have one silkie, a black hen named Minky, but I just love her! She's so soft and fluffy and a total sweetheart.

She was best friends with my silkie mix hen who was twelve years old, but about a month ago a predator got the silkie mix so Minky has been alone ever since. (Minky gets picked on if I put her in the general coop population.) Minky will soon have new friends in the form of some polish chicks, though.

Sorry about your Peaches, Mrs. Fluffy Puffy! Always a sad and difficult thing to go through. Sending e-hugs your way.
