OK, silkie lovers, I need advice on how to raise a NICE rooster. My current rooster was raised as a baby with his most favorite girl. They lived in the house for 6 weeks and I brought them out almost every evening to socialize on the couch, but they were never very friendly. Now, he attacks ankles every chance he gets. My current roo-2-b, Lavy, is about 16-17 weeks old and is friendly so far but every day that goes by he gets more and more weary of being picked up or handled. I REALLY don't want another evil silkie rooster. He and his "girl" friend, Clover, who is about a week or so younger, come inside every evening and either hang out on the couch with me and DH or in their cat carrier next to the couch. I bring them into the bedroom at night, where they sleep, and during the days, they stay in the bathtub together. That is mostly because I have only had him about 3 weeks and I wanted him and Clover to bond, but also because when I put him with the rest of the girls, he seems so scared and lost, and they do pick on him. I read about all these sweet, lap silkie roo's, and I want one. What do I need to do??
My rooster is super sweet, but he was never around a hen until he was like 5 months old... I don't know if that makes a difference or not. He was with four extra roos that the guy swore were pullets.
Don't think you are the only one with mean silkies! I have two White Silkie Roosters and they aren't very nice. But I did have a Very Very nice Buff silkie roo, and he loved to cuddle with me. But then he died!!
I am new to Silkies. I have 11 currently. 9 are chicks. These fuzzy little guys are adorable and I don't know how anyone could dislike them!
Maybe someone can help me with a color question. I have a young pullet that is what looks like blue with lining on her feathers (although it has lightened as she's gotten older) and some blue and buff (tan) around her head and shoulders. Any ideas?
I don't think you can really make them nice but I could be wrong. I have had 2 that were nice when they were younger and then got MEAN! One has been gone and I still have the other one and he looks at the bottom of my shoe everyday! Lol! All the rest of them are sweeties so maybe it is something in the genetics?????
