well I'm mentally ill anyway so could probably get off on a "not guilty by reason of temporary insanity" plea... but she's in her 80's, so I would have felt guilty. I left before the urge to punch her overtook me - not good for the baby if I had!

Fab idea! it's election season in the UK, that should sooo be a debate question:

"Mr. candidate, do you respect the rights of expecting mothers to bludgeon ill mannered louts, untill they return to thier senses?"

2 of the 3 main parties' leaders have wives who are pregnant or have small children... if they don't, I expect their wives do!
pity I can't vote for either of them, because I can't see any real difference between them! I'll probably vote for the Green Party (not one of the main 3) purely because they want to do more to help the ecology, but since we don't have proportional representation here it won't make a difference.

You are right though, that would be a GOOD question to ask them.

no green card, no passport... I'd never get in! and they ask at passport control to enter as a tourist "do you have any mental illness?" (or they did in the late '90's when my friend visited Boston) so depression and anxiety disorders would keep me out, I think!

my neighbour is a very lonely old woman, and it's obvious why! her opinions stink. No idea on the abortion issue, she thinks I shouldn't be having a baby though. But since she's in her 80s and was never married, it's fairly likely she never had an opportunity to get pregnant anyway, and thinks that no-one needs contraception because we shouldn't be having sex! She also thinks that bullying in schools is "nonsense" and doesn't happen, unemployment is the unemployed's own fault (coz it's nothing to do with there being thousands of applicants for every job, of course... we're not in a recession or anything) blahblah I don't listen to her opinions if I can help it.

as for me being a great mother, don't know yet as it's never been tried! I hope I do ok at it...

Well no worries then, the poor old dear's simply lost her mind in her advanced age. From here out, just remind yourself she's gone senile and daft, and don't let her bother you.

Saddi's trivia of the day: There is the same percent of people marring as virgins as there was in the 1920's, the number has not changed more than 3% up or down since they first started charting these things.

nah, according to those who've known her for years, she's always been a bit..erm... obnoxious! I just avoid her if I can.

your trivia fact is interesting, though!
But I wonder about the proportions of those who aren't married, whether the same proportions still occur

One thing that was noted in that lecture was the shotgun wedding tradition, that is a young lady who was considered to be in the family way, could quietly be married off; of course she and the groom needed to tell everyone how they just suddenly felt destined for each other. But after contraception in the 60's there was no longer a need for this. Prior to that girls would need to act coy so if they found themselves in need of a husband quickly, there was no reason to question paternity.

On a personal note, mr saddi looks nothing like his father, and identical to his uncle, a half sibling to his father with no parents in common. His mother was a somewhat nitorious "husband shopper". Family lore is that the "good son" married her before shipping out to Nam, expecting to leave her a widow's pension to provide for his son/nephew.

but it could just happen that way if he looks like a half-uncle - one of my friends looks nothing like either of his parents, but is a male version of one of his aunts...
but if it's a stepbrother to his official father, that's different!
