I had one for years regarding a lion eating me... stopped when I was about 15.
then when I was about 24 I started having dreams about the path I chose not to follow, where I hadn't married the ex and was involved with someone else I knew. We had 2 children, lived on his family's farm... it was like having a second life, while I was awake I was married to the ex and while I was asleep I was living life as my friend's partner...

Dreams are fascinating things.

Does anyone tend to have recurring themes?

For instance, mine are:

- Water. Oceans primarily. I'd say 90% of my dreams take place around either large flowing rivers or on/near the ocean. Many times there are like, giant sea creature fossils and tide pools with weird little things in them strewn all over the place. Usually there are sail boats and swimming involved. I *used* to have recurring tidal wave dreams...I'd be on a beach, the ocean would suck back...this giant wave was coming toward me. My mother told me that next time this happens, instead of running I should just let the wave take me. I did, and I haven't had another "tsunami" dream since.

- Mountains. Huge mountains, sometimes rocky and snowcapped, other times lush and green. More than once there are trains or ski lifts involved. Sometimes volcanos.

- And this one rickety wooden village, like a wharf, built on docks strewn around a river mouth leading into the ocean, with a large city near by.

I am also able to fly quite a bit and occasionally have the mind to lucidly dream. And I have had my fair share of interesting zombie necropalypse dreams as well.

My pets and often my childhood best friend are pretty commonplace as well.

The other night I was like, in some modern version of Dinotopia (with humans and dinosaurs coexisting). I was some sort of therapod...I'd see my dinosaur self in the reflection on buildings. I can't recall a whole except at one point I was in a grocery store leaping around and being all dinosaur-y, and the next moment we could fly and we were looking "for the party", which was apparently denoted by these pigeons who were flying up to a tall building and getting sucked into the glass. We wanted to follow them, but had to be wary because these were mobster pigeons and not a savoury sort at all. But then the pigeons implemented some sort of shield which slammed down over all the windows and we couldn't get in. ):

As for nightmares...I haven't had a real one since I was quite little, but on occasion I do have this disturbing recurring dream where I am exploring a big old house...I climb the stairs and at the end of the hallway or near it is a dark room. If I happen to enter this room, I get such an intense terrorfied feeling that I wake up immedietly. I can't really describe it. It's like a terror that I've never experienced in waking life, even when our car spun off the road into a gulch a few winters ago (which was arguably one of the most frightening things I have experienced yet).

I have to ask you all about a side effect to meditation. I am reading a book called Wicca For Beginners by Thea Sabin. She describes a ground exercises in which you imagine that you have a taproot connecting you to the ground. You pull up good energy and push out the excess energy through the taproot. (I explained it badly.)

When I did this for a few minutes, my body felt like it was gently moving back and forth. I stopped and laid my hands on my legs because the feeling was so real, I thought that I was swaying. I wasn't physically moving.

Was I doing something wrong?

i've had that happen a few times myself. i just associate it to 'being like a plant' and the breeze swaying me. though i get really relaxed while doing that and sometimes have fallen asleep.

What causes it?

I had this really freaky dream one time. I was very vivid and woke me with a start when it ended. I remember all of it even today. It was the first time meeting one of my guides. He made a rather dramatic entrance!!

I found myself standing on a rocky coastline. If you have ever seen the old soap opera Dark Shadows, think of that eery back music, it was playing.

2 kids come running up to me on the cliffs over looking the water that is crashing into the rocks belong. They look like David and Sara from Dark Shadows! They keep telling me to come on, follow them, "He" was waiting for me.

I followed them out onto the cliffs to a narrow point. I asked them who it was, they kept telling me to wait he's coming.

I was standing on the point. I looked down to see this creature come out of the water. It came straght out of the water, it's pointy beak went through the rocky I was standing on, through the bottom of my feet and into my body. We became as one, it was a Norwhal.

Next thing I knew we were in the icey waters and swimming. I woke up with damp hair and shivering!

At the risk of seeming immature by using the word, cool....That is a very cool explanation.
