In response to prior posts on spirit guides, I wholeheartedly agree that the choose you. I adore raccoons, horses, and cats. Who are my guides? A red tailed hawk (who is actually a pfenix and belongs to this soul I am using, not just to the body its in at the time) a bull moose (who replaced a red fox that saw me through the first years of college) A Star Dragon (who is my 'helper' and is easier for me to talk to than any other spirit I know) and my teacher is a white crocodile who speaks in riddles and rhetorical questions.

A friend of mine showed me how he was taught to find them. He had us lie down in a dim room free of distractions. To find your helper or teacher, the instructions were to meditate, try to clear your mind, and when you found yourself somewhere to travel till you find your guide. The spirit you find 'up' is your helper who supports you, gives advice, or just listens when you have had a rough day and you have no one else to vent to. The 'down' spirit is the teacher.
To find your totem(s) he had us enlist the help of a friend. We were paired off and told to lie close to the other person, in physical contact however it is comfortable, and again, meditate. But this time, you focus on the other person, send your consciousness into them, and search for their totem. The right one will say yes when asked if it belongs with that person, and it will come with you as you come ot of meditation. Then you tell your friend what you found.

Now I don't know if its just the wacky lot I associate with, but I have gotten some mighty funny results doing this. Lotsa dragons, for instance. And not normal types, either. Most everyone has 2+ totems, and some of the spirits include my pfenix and star dragon, a gryfyn (with a kestrel as its bird-end), a white-eyed lioness who may in fact actually shapeshift into both a shadowy dragon and a chameleon, a winged unicorn, a canopy dragon, a shiny gold flying orb that refuses to reveal its self to anyone but its person, an ice... thing... and others even harder to describe. My Animal Speak book only covers 'real' animals! *sigh*

The funny thing with this meditation link is that we have had it connect some of us more deeply than we would have believed. We have seen images that we were sent by friends, and more than once encountered another's guide while searching for our own.
It is really cool when things like this give credibility to our beliefs... I am a little ashamed that I still need the reassurance I am not just totally loony or making it all up.

On that note, has anyone else seen fairies, or any other thing that you weren't sure was real?
I recently remembered an encounter I had a few years ago at my parents house. One of my gifts, which I am sorely out of practice at, is being able to 'see' spirits. I don't know if I do ghosts, but nature spirits and forest guardians for sure. Anyway, I was at my parents house, where I grew up, sleeping in my old bedroom. Well, not sleeping, I was trying to sleep. Utterly bored, I decided to practice 'seeing' since the place was familiar enough to see pretty far. I started with the room I was in, and slowly expanded the sphere of my awareness till I saw something. I saw some small people, 2- 2 1/2 feet tall, in tunics and trousers. Maybe even pointy hats- its hard to say, the image is shifty. But at any rate they were GNOMES! Actual gnomes! Right there 20 feet from my room! They were gathered at the foot of a post which held up the carport roof (my dad had been/is still talking about one day finishing the space off and making a home theater out of it) and they were discussing concrete. Though I had no ability to hear them, I knew the gist of their conversation. It had been a while since they had come to this particular part of the yard and since then, a new piece of masonry had been added. They discussed the ingenuity of humans, and how industrious we are. Then, as the conversation trailed off, they moved on and I drifted off to sleep at last.
Might this have been my imagination? Possibly, except for the next day. Being the first full day of my visit, I was obligated to go with my dad to see all his new projects and accomplishments. After about an hour of catching up, he said if it were more exciting and less messy he'd take me out to the back carport and show me his progress there. He said he had finally begun the foundation last week and had some nice new concrete that had set up at the foot of each post. I nearly fainted! There was NO way for me to know that... but the Gnomes had shown me!

Still one of the coolest and most 'concrete' (no pun intended!) pieces of confirmation I have gotten that any of my gifts are real and beliefs are true. Just wondering if any others have had similar moments where they were verified by real events.

Oh, and if anyone wants more details on the spirit guide thing, feel free to pm me, though I am by no means an expert.

Tamra, that is pretty amazing. It makes sense to me that places could have guardians. Growing up, I was taught that we all have guardian angels. I would think that God would care for all of his work, not just humans.

Okay, do you all want to hear what you have done to me?

We have a mouse living somewhere in our house(Didn't mean to sound like Dr. Seus) I have seen it and so have my daughters. We laid out poison but that isn't working. This morning my youngest daughter woke up and found it laying on her pillow next to her head!!

After I got over the yuck factor, my mind immediately went to the thought of it being a sign that her spirit guide is a mouse.

When hubby comes home we will have to discuss ways to rid our selves of this guest. Of course, when any animal lets itself get close to a human, you have to wonder if it is diseased in some way.

It woudl have to go .. Spirit Guide or not .. I would freak if I woke up to a mouse on my pillow ...

LOL. It is still freaking us out now and she woke up hours ago.

I have successfully kept field mice as pets. On occasion my cat would catch babies, and sometimes even adults, without hurting them and I would keep them in an old terrarium. My vole was the only hand-tamed wild rodent (unless you count the bunnies) that I kept, but the mice were pets still, if only on the level of aquarium fish. Max, my favorite mouse, was with me for three years and had as much personality as my cats. We got along and were fond of eachother, but we had an understanding about territory. I stayed out of his, and he stayed in it. of course I had to clean his cage occassionally, but I always made it quick and he hated every moment of it.
Anyway, my point is that I would suggest live catch traps. If it is a significant animal I wouldnt risk hurting it. But then again, I don't like hurting anything. Took me months of trying every kinder method I could find before I broke down and bought traps for the small colony of rats living in my old house. I nearly cried each time I caught one. I feel intense guilt for causing death to come to anything I am not going to eat (and even then, I feel bad) so I would use a live trap if I were you. I have a mouse sized live trap I could send you if you want. I was sent the wrong size while I was hunting my rats, and my new house is rodent free so I have no need of this.

I would live trap it and let it go outside. Mice are small animals who make thier effects felt in big ways.

You do know they will come right back in... My parents didnt believe me on this so i put nail polish on a mouse I had caught in a live trap. let it loose outside and caught it again the same day.. i even went a ways into the cornfield before releasing it..
