offshore fishing

didnt want to catch the tuna....boy yall a bad shape crew sounds like, we fight over who gets the rod here haha. Guess it's like catching these darn 80 pound amber jacks though, after a few you're done with them.

Yep Late April - July is our best over all mixed bag stream time too. The bigger hoos and yellowfin are there now though, they tend to like it a bit cooler, 70-72 ish where the dolphin and blackfin like that 75+ water. I'm ready to go though... dont be scared to grab a rod!! Never know whats on the other end.
My wife did that on the bow one day while we were tower fishing the bottom. She's too little to handel the big bottom poles for pompano and jacks, so she flat lines live bait off the front. Had a screamer hit it once. After 30 min into it she was convinced a big amberjack had got it and want to hand it off... but before it was all over, she had 2 nice yellowfin and a big ol wahoo from doing that that day.
At one time, we would have been battling over the bent rod but that big hoo was pulling line like a 300 pound bluefin! My crew and I have pulled on enough big tunas that we always enjoy putting a greenie on a standup rod, just in case the fight goes a couple of hours. We enjoy clearing the rods, making fresh beverages, and giving the angler a hard time, especially after he starts to get tired! We would rather crank on the 50-80 lb. schoolies! It wasn't until the hoo started fighting high in the water column that we realized it wasn't a tuna. When we first saw color, we thought it might be a rat blueboy, but it never jumped.

haha, I hear ya, we do the same thing too to our new guys on the boat, always funny to watch them get their butt handed to them by a fish. Especially the big guys who have that, aint no fish gonna get the best of me attitude... always funny to see them curled up in the fetal possition under the gunnal haha

he werent bad! havent caught any blues yet. Had about a 600 lb one bust threw a school of dolphin last year just off the bow.

we were running a big weed line and it had been a little slow, ( mid afternoon) was waiting on the late evening bite to kick in before we made the 90 mile run back to the hill. Anyway finally saw a bunch of nervous water off to the side of the line and saw a few dolphin backs coming out of the water. We just assumed it was them feeding on the flying fish. Man I bet were we 30 foot from them, getting ready to watch all the rods go down, then he shot stright up threw them! 20 pound dolphin scattering all threw the air like minnows. He did a full breach fell back in, then launched 1 more time right out from under the boat. was the coolest thing in the world. Of course he was so keyed in on them he didnt even pay attention to the Islanders and ballyhoo when they went by, and the dolphin were running for the hill, but it was still awesome to see.

One day it'll work out. Done sails, and whites, but still waiting on that ol blue!!

Congrats for sure on that one....

Thanks! That fish was 11'-10.5" long, we estimated him at around 500. It was all my friend could do to lift his head out of the water for a picture! Not too bad of a catch from a 19' boat!
