Oh, boy...I think it's on the way!!!! EDIT: She laid!

Heehee we got the second egg today. I went out and checked at the same time. The hay in the top nest box had been swirled but no egg. So I turn around and tell my hubby no egg. Turn back around and see that my ee was in the bottom nest box standing with a wth look on her face with a wet again underneath her. So 2 days in a row an egg at about the same time of day. Yay!

we got our second pullet egg today slightly bigger than the first one dont know if it was the same pullet that layed or one of our other ones this was a bit lighter in color and was not speckled like the first.

Jeff I noticed you have a Wyandotte. Has it started laying? If so how old was she when she started. I have 2 Wyandottes and they are 5 weeks younger than the rest. Yes they are the victims of me going to get more feed and seeing more chicks. I have to admit I wouldn't have gotten any other breed on that type of whim. But these ladies are almost as big as the others and one of them has a much redder face and comb. The ee that is laying has a noticeably redder face and comb than the other 3 but 2 of those are almost as red. I'm wondering if the Wyandottes will start younger than the older group.

I wish I could give you some solid news, but here's the deal. We bought her along with 4 other hens of differing breeds on pretty much their 5 month birthday. At that point, she was not laying, and she still isn't. We've only had her now for around 15 days. The 2 that were laying before we got them stopped after 2 days, and haven't restarted yet, and one that wasn't laying (the EE in this thread) started 3 days ago. I'm guessing either the heat or still the shock of the move and introduction to our existing flock has kept her from laying. I also have a Brahma that hasn't started, but I hear I expect a long wait probably with her.

Hoping the SLW starts laying soon, and the BO and Sussex restart soon! And hope you get your first egg from yours soon! How old is she?

The EE's, Barred Rock and RIR's are 19 weeks and the Wyandottes are 15 weeks. I was totally happy with the original 7. But I didn't know that the feed store was getting any Wyandottes at all. They were getting a shippment of 100-25 of 4 breeds weekly. I just happened to be there when the chicks were. And this was the day they came in. There was me and an ol guy in there. I got my 2 (there was probably 6 Wyandottes) and he got the last 19 or 20 chicks of that weeks shipment. Now our town is really tiny. Population just under 4000. But the chicks were selling out the day they came in each week. I waited 5 years to get them so I am a tad goofy over it.
