Oh Craigslist, You Amuse Me So!

Yep, they do pretty sick isn't it.

I know a guy had Buffalo bulls in his herd, City people with more money than brains paid him enormous money to walk out in his pasture and shot the bull that would walk right up to the feed cart.

I can't help but wonder if they made up a better story when telling their friends about it. Which is what I was wondering about the ram ad too...if you buy him, shoot him, and put him on the wall, what do you say when people ask about it? It seems like a pretty lame story but what do I know!

These days, a "conversation piece" like that would probably only be found in a "man cave" . . . . and we know that most of the conversation that goes on in places like that generally ain't to be relied on or considered admissible in a court of law anyway.

Wait wait wait...pardon my ignorance, but the ad says "shooter/breeder ram". Do people buy these to shoot? Like kill it to put on the wall??? I totally get trophy hunting, but that's not hunting at all.

Ever heard of canned hunting? These guys I found, in my research, are popular for that. In fact they even BREED them for qualities that these 'hunters' like for their trophies, like a pure white beard. They do this with all sorts of animals, including big predators like lions.

I had never heard of that so I Googled. I'm astounded. People pay $50,000 to shoot a lion in a fence? I guess the ram for sale was a downright bargain.

Many here breed chickens and other fowl/birds for specific traits... granted they aren't for shooting and mounting on the wall, but the same basic principle, scaled up exponentially. Costs a heckuva lot more in time, money and aggravation to breed, raise, and maintain large breed animals (especially ones capable of eating you) to slaughter (via sliced arteries in a cone or abattoir or a hunter's bullet).

I am sticking with a wall mount, makes a better story. Might even send it to PETA, facts matter little to them either.

I almost replied to the ad to ask if he could clarify what he meant by "shooter", since there was a cell number to text. But I figure he will probably think I'm trying to start a debate about ethical treatment of animals and such. Regardless, thanks to Pyxis, I went down the rabbit hole of "canned hunting" on the Internet which has proved to be extremely interesting.

I've heard the same thing about Cabelas and Bass Pro and others. I'm not opposed to mounts, I've got several on my walls (not mine, I don't hunt, but my husband's). I guess the thing I can't wrap my mind around is the "why" of this canned hunting. Like your acquaintance with the buffalo- why pay good money to go kill a tame animal? You wouldn't have a cool story to tell. If you bought the ram in the Craigslist ad, killed it and put it on your wall, wouldn't that be the lamest story ever? Someone comes to your house and goes "wow that's cool! Where'd you get that, in Asia somewhere?" And you say "no, I bought it on Craigslist and shot it in my backyard! Isn't that awesome?" I just don't get it.
