I thought red rangers were a hybrid.![]()
Cornish Crosses are a cross breed breed x and breed y, or at least that's what we get from hatcheries (there may be exceptions) and what we can do ourselves. The Cornish breed and another breed (usually a DP of some sort). the supermarket ones (and perhaps some hatchery versions) are a unique breed because they have bred them to be bigger faster it's like a Nascar race car, it might say it's a chevy they may make it look kinda like a chevy but it ain't a chevy we can get a hold of. The ranger varieties are a breeds all their own. It's my understanding the Freedom ranger was the "first" (there are so many breeds that are not like their fore fathers that I'm sure many in the beginning were similar to the "rangers") it was a cross of different breeds to make them have the qualities of a foraging larger bird, it caught on and other breeders and hatcheries tried to do their own version of the same thing, with trade market names. I had seen many many people post here that they were mad that the hatcheries and breeders never told them what breeds they used to get their ranger breeds, I have replied to some like why would the spend lots of money trying different crosses to get there and just tell you take these 2 breeds and then add breed x and then y than a to get to the same place, you'd just end up buying 2 or 3 pairs of 10 or 12 breeds and you won't buy from them for 6 or 8 years until you need a little new blood in your lines. I think one might be able to breed true to form on the different rangers, but if it starts to unwind I am sure you could either get some more of that ranger breed and refresh the bloodlines or even if you try a new rooster(s) or hens (or both!) from a different version to keep it going. I wish if there was 4 people on here that live close to each other who want to do rangers each order 25 of 1 type of ranger and swap with each other so they all have (roughly) 6 of 4 types of rangers banded so they know what is what and write an article on how they did and if any 1 was more of a forager on different types of range and what was more of a cc and just wanted to eat from a feeder. and the different weights....I’m pretty sure they are. Although now I think they breed true. Idk. I think they were a hybrid at one point like the CX but now have been bred so long for a certain purpose they breed true I think. They’re not first generation hybrids like sex links.
Here’s some stuff I found.

Idk if this is the same breed or not but also found these. I have seen them called Red Rangers, Freedom Rangers, and Rainbow Rangers, so idk if they are the same or slightly different, like maybe slightly different breeds went into it or it’s a specific hatchery’s line, like with all the different sex link varieties. Idk.
