Oh Deer... *graphic*... not really...

I guess I just never really have seen anyone get a fawn here.. Now I did get a button buck years ago .. It was my first and soo far only deer... But it was tasty...

90% of button bucks are considered fawns. If they are a 1 1/2 years they have spikes or forks.

Think of it this way. If it's born in the spring, it will be about 6 months old... looks nothing like a fawn. The only way to tell is truly the size of them. Usually if you see a few does together... they are related. Mother and two or three fawns. Of those fawns, you can have button bucks or does. You may even have some of last years fawns with their mother still, these are the year and a half ones.

Usually you see at least two up to 10 or so deer in a herd. It's not uncommon to see a group of bucks herding together before and after the rut.

Cool thanks for the info

In Ohio, "if it's brown it's down". I shot one a few years ago that fit in a 48 quart cooler. Best tasting deer I've ever eaten.

LOL... must be a state wide motto!! Hahah.... The fawns do taste the best. Man what great meat, knocks the socks off of commercial beef anyday!

Even though I can't wait until I get a fence up so I can raise a few beef cows!

Haha, that's the Michigan motto too. Here, we just aren't allowed to take SPOTTED fawns. You can't even keep one of those if you hit it with the car.

A great way to do the tenderloin is to slice it, dip in flour/season salt mixture and brown it. Then put it in the crock pot all day-mmmmmmmm..............

It's the same in Ohio (no spots). I know quite a few people in our area that go up to Michigan to hunt. Out of state licence are expensive, but tags are cheap.
