Oh, fer pity's sake, DO SOMETHING!

Got up this morning and one little one had hatched and was almost dry but was totally unresponsive when I would talk to it in the bator. I have been through this before. Last year I had one egg hatch out of all of them and it was not good. Put in four mirrors and a stuffed animal which did the trick besides me holding him everyday more than once for the one last year. Fortunately, with this one, I had 9 hatch from another group five days ago, so I put it in with them and started peeping continuously. The older ones were so good. The one little orpy chick kept on going over to it to stimulate it and ended up laying with it throughout the day. And since my one little orpy seems to be the leader and security for the others, they eventually all came over to meet and lay with the new one.

So, tonight I come home and I'll be darned if another one is pipping. So, now what do I do? I really was not expecting or enthused that any of the others were going to hatch. This one pipping really does not peep much, so I can understand why the first one did not hear any others. It is very quiet in the bator, so when this one comes, I'll keep it in there until it is peeping so loud because it's lonely or becomes unresponsive.

5 of 7 were clear??? Where did you get your eggs from??? I'd be a bit peeved.

Fortunately, they are my own. I think my poor roo is overworked -- he has 21 girls. But my last hatch a month ago only had 1 clear. I'm guessing either he's not spending much time with the BCM hen and too much with the others, or could he be spread so thin that his sperm count is low? I'm at a loss...

Poor guy! He's wore thin! Give him fewer hens and you'll get less clear eggs.

Well, my will start hatching on the 31st, hopefully. I'm trying not to go crazy waiting. When I do that it seems as if it takes forever. So far I have hatched birds once a month. I'm doing better each time and of course add more eggs. I am making my next round of chicks a really nice brooder to stay in. Right now the nursery has some baby bantam EE's in there. I'm hoping to move them out when the chicks are ready to move in. BTW, the brooder box and nursery are 2 different areas. I can't wait to see what hatches this time. I think I have 5 different birds in there........ lol.

Good luck to those who will be hatching in the next few days.

Good thoughts to all of you and wishes for lots of chicks. To myself as well. Going into lockdown tomorrow. Hatch day on Saturday March 26th. Would love some early but won't hold my breath.

I have a pip! And 3 of the eggs are moving! And I heard a few peeps! Yes, it is 3 am here and yes, I just had to get up and check the eggs.

They have always been stubborn chicks from the beginning. Never wanted to move in the egg when I candled always had to tap on the shell to get a reaction. Up stubborn I tell ya.

Cord I hope you get them all. You will feel this way about every hatch, no matter what's in the incubator. Breath, breath, deep breaths.

I had to pop in though to offer the article from Practical poultry on hatching again. If anyone here would like it, pm your e-mail address and I will send it to you.

Hope everyone has a great hatch.

Maybe this is a stupid question but being new im need an answer. What is pipping? Is that when they make the little hole? Also is that little hole suppost to be in the end of the egg? Like where the air sack is?? I have 1 egg out of 16 that made a little hole in the side of the egg (i have them laying on their side and the hole is in the side facing up...hope that makes sence.) It has beeen almost 24hrs and no more has happened with it. Did i make it in the wrong spot?
