I think that is because the feet are actually metal that holds the rest of the bird up not the original feet. It's a structural thing. Kind of how they use glass for the eyes. If I was going to do a silkie hen I'd do her in the broody position and set her in the way in the middle of the kitchen. Kind of like how my silkie is sitting in the middle of the coop right now causing everyone to have to walk around her or suffer the consequences of coming to close.
When I was in 4-H about 17 years ago. A fellow 4-H er's chicken died during showmanship. He finished showing with a dead chicken. I don't remember how he placed.
Anyways fast forward 12 years. I am at his parents house, he is our state representative now (til next month, term limits), and I took a care package to his dad. Their camel bit him on the head. (a whole other story)
I notice a stuffed chicken on the fireplace mantel and his mom goes something to the effect oh that was Joe's favorite chicken that died while he was showing at the fair.
Real pretty chicken, but our dead ones are buried in the ground.
My stepdaughter roomed with people who had their cats stuffed when they died. She found a cat in the freezer (as it was a busy time for the taxidermist). She quickly moved out.
CREEPY.
