Oh my! I am getting Peas!

Photos of the silver pied pairs.
I do not know the genetic background of these birds as the original owner has passed away and his breeding partner is trying to find any info on them. The widow knows nothing about the birds either so this may be an experience!

This guy looks to have yellow under his eye.

And his lady with him.....

And the 2nd pair outside......

I did not get any photos of the other pair that I believe are Oaten or Opal. Hard for me to tell as I am a newbie and the guy could not remember the name of them. The more I research, the more I think they are Opal.
And he may have a Bronze pair for me, too.

I gotta get to building more pens!
Beautiful and you cab really see the progress you're making.

I took some yesterday though the birds are still in their original pens as we try to move material from what we are tearing down from old pea pens there and bringing it here.
Here are some photos.....

Above is Bronze that he may give me. I am not as into the Bronze as other colors but I won't say no to anything he offers me. I am not sure if this girl would go with this boy or the one in the next photo since there are 2 girls in this pen.

I

I think he is a handsome fella but if I had my druthers I prefer the Opal over the Bronze. I am turned off by the barred wings for some reason. I am sure it will grow on me.

I wish I could have gotten better shots of the Opals but they had a large sectioned pen and I did not want to scare them too badly.

The man said he would give me pairs and did not say trios so I figure he will keep extra girls for whatever he may need to pair up and sell for next year but I am hopeful I get trios.

Here is my silver pied pair that is in the barn. I think these are lovely and this is how I came to actually get them. I told the man when he bought keets from me earlier this year that I always have wanted pieds.

And the other pair of silver pied is outside.

These birds are no where near tame but I hope I can work in and around their pens when I bring them home without scaring them. Right now they watch us work and every once and a while honk but this is their home territory so I think they feel safe. I dread the first few days of being here on my farm as I know they may flush and hurt or kill themselves.

So much to learn and so much to do but I am excited about it all. I have already started a peafowl page on my website, too.

They are very pretty, you were lucky to make such a find, i would love to see the bronze and opal in person i am sure the photos do not show all their pretty colors like we see in person as the light hits their feathers making them change colors and hues.

Thank you for sharing their photos

Yes, when I first saw the Opal it was cloudy and I thought perhaps it was an Oaten but when the sun hit it another time I was over there my friend said it had color in it's neck so I went back and researched more and saw it was an Opal. The person giving them to me could not remember the name of it at the time. He breeds other colors and is simply dispersing these since his friend passed away and the widow doesn't want them.

I feel very lucky to get them as I would never have put money into them before because I was afraid I just didn't know enough. With this "gift" and his mentoring on them I am learning how to correctly care for them. And everything I read here, as well.

The Bronze are pretty but as far as eye feathers, I think I prefer the Opal.

Oh and because I read so many great comments that you write, I have decided to name one of the boys Zazous. Also after the French that dressed so brightly!

It is good that you are getting them after breeding season, that way they will already be settled in by time the next season gets here.
Cool that you named one zazouse.
