Oh no, I have made a BIG mistake. HELP

You can't go back and change what happened, so you just have to keep looking forward. It's happened, you feel terrible (as would we all), but in the absence of an 'antidote' there's really not much you can do other than keep an eye on her and keep her comfortable. I am of the opinion that an oral dose may not be as bad as IM. If you inject it then the body can't get rid of it other than by processing it. Given that antibiotics can cause diarrhea in people it could be that a large dose will do the same to your bird, and not all of it will be absorbed in the gut before it is rejected at the other end.
Several years ago I had a fully-grown bird who needed antibiotic treatment, but I only had human-sized tablets. I tried to calculate the dose for a 3kg bird but it was about 1/10 of a tablet - even crushing it up I couldn't divide it into that many doses, so she got between 1/3 and 1/2 a tablet every day for a week instead. She survived and lived to a ripe old age!

I am crossing my fingers for you and for her - please update us and let us know what happens.

oh I gave it orally which is probably worse. It is Tylan 50 and there is 50 mg in a cc. She is so frail anyway. Probably maybe 1.5 kilo’s About half the size of the other 2 chickens that are the same age. I am a nurse and I can’t believe I made such a glaring error. If I killed her I will never forgive myself
The daily oral poultry dose is *50 mg per pound per day* and should be given 2-4 times a day.
1.5 kg = 3.3 pounds
3.3 x 50 / 50 = 3.3 ml per day divided by 4, 3, or 2

Give a 3.3 pound (1.5 kg) bird one of the following:

  • 0.825 ml four times a day
or
  • 1.1 ml three times a day
or
  • 1.65 ml twice a day

This is from the Elanco site in reference to the Tylan Soluble powder:

I would think that she would be fine with a one time overdose of Tylan. How much does she weigh or what breed is she? How is she doing now?
She said she weighed ~1.5 kg (3.3 pounds) in this post:
Probably maybe 1.5 kilo’s About half the size of the other 2 chickens that are the same age.

FWIW, if I were going to use Tylan 50 on one this size I would give 1.1 ml three times a day orally.

Oh she can't weigh over 2 or 2 1/2 lbs. I have had her since the end of February. They were all 4 weeks old andvaccinated for marks and coccidia. At first I didnt notice anything wrong. (I got 2 australorps-I lost one of them about 2-3 weeks ago quite suddenly and 2 speckled Sussex, she is the speckled sussex) but she has failed to thrive. She eats good. But she is about half the size of her sister. She lays around quite a bit and just seems lethargic. She keeps one eye closed all the time and I went out to see if she had any drainage and her little eye was crusted shut. I went in and got a warm rag and some polysporin and decided I would just give her the Tylan. She is on that because of a short bark like cough she has. This is the 2nd day of Tylan. I took a stool to the vet and he said coccidia was present but not a heavy load. (but she had 3 days of corrid earlier) she has hung on this long in spite of me trying to get her well. Up until now that is. She is roosting right now with the others but she may die overnight. I wish I had never gotten chickens. I am entirely too attached to them and I have lost my cool
