This is an excellent article and if I could just find a helper it would be SO easy. I can tell that by the pictures sn video. Everything goes fine until I open her beak. Then her neck turns to rubber and she wriggles her head away no matter how firmly I try to hold her beak open. And so here I am. Maybe if I could find another husband, even if he is feeble he could hold the chicken while I medicate it
Some people find it easier to do if you wrap them in a towel first, so maybe you could try that? This is an excellent article and if I could just find a helper it would be SO easy. I just posted on that site and I will keep my fingers crossed that I can get a response Many thanks for suggesting this to me
Wow, 1.0 ml per 1 kg of the 10% stuff? That's 100 mg/kg.![]()
I didn’t know who else to contact but you so I am replying to your thread. This little hen could not stand up this morning. I finally got her to stand up. she come out into the outside pen and laid down. I don’t know what to do. She is communicating and her eyes are bright. The only vet that will see chickens is off today. I told the vets office if he would come in and see her I would take money out of savings to pay him whatever he wanted. Now that desperate. I went to “Just Answer” and they wanted $40 to answer. I gave all of them 5 drops of colloidal silver orally. Please advis me if you willNo less than 0.2 ml per pound every 6-8 hours, but not more than what I suggested in an earlier post, which is:
Do you have a facebook account?
- 0.25 ml per pound four times a day
- 0.33 ml per pound three times a day
- 0.50 ml per pound four times a day
I am so sorry you are going through all of this.I didn’t know who else to contact but you so I am replying to your thread. This little hen could not stand up this morning. Well she is eating and drinking both. I got her to stand and she came out in the penned in area and laid down. I have made so many exhaustive searches on google, and went to so many poultry sites and forums. I went to a site called “Just Answer” and they wanted $40 just to give me any type of answer. What is making me crazy is I got them as 1 month old chicks and for the first month they were great, no problems. I had them in a large dog cage they weren’t around any other animals. I put a roost in there for them. I changed their bedding every day, changed the water every day, and gave them good quality non medicated chick crumble. One day one of the australorps looked like she didn’t feel good. Fluffed up, wings and tail drooping. I put her in a cage by herself with food and water. I put her in a darkened quiet area of the garage. I found her dead the next morning. The others looked and acted well but just in case I took them out of the cage and cleaned everything waterers and food dish with Oxine. In about another 1 or 3 weeks I noticd one of the speckled Sussex didn’t seem herself Herbfeathers were fluffed up, mouthing but she was still eating but only half the six of the other, same age, Sussex. I gave all of them water soluble tetracycline x 5 days. There was no improvement at all. So I gave all 3 of them Corrid x 5 days. No improvement. I took a stool sample to the vet and he said there were coccidia present but but not a heavy load. The poor baby suffered like this for a week and a half before she died. Right before she died (4dats ago) I became aware that the other Sussex wasn’t acting herself. Quieter on the roost most of the time. I just couldn’t believe it. I put Oxine in a cool mist vaporizer and tented their cage. Ran it all night long for 2 days...still the same. Yesterday I gave her and the last surviving chick ivermectin 2drops between the shoulder blades. This morning she couldn’t get up. I gave them both colloidal silver 5 drops this morning. I am at my wits end. I there was a bacteria or disease that they were exposed to it seems like they would get sick within a few days of each other but this hasn’t been the case. It may just be I am paranoid but it seems like the last chick isn’t as active but I can’t be sureI am so sorry you are going through all of this.
I highly doubt the vet is going to be able to do anything, I don't think you should pull savings money nor do I think you should be spending money for website answers.
I think you need to think about ending the suffering if she isn't eating and drinking on her own.
I took a stool sample to the vet and they checked it They said there was 1 or2 coccidia eggs and thstvwas all. The rest was normal. They gave me a different antibiotic and to give it for 10 days. When I first got the chicks I kept them in the garage because of our cold winter. I moved the cage to the back porch about 3 or 4 weeks ago. I kept all of my weed killers and chemicals in the garage. But I never smelled anything when I went won’t there everyday. I would hate to think that somehow I could have caused thisI am so sorry you are going through all of this.

Ok. I will. I just wont post about it anymore. I am beating a dead horse. just trying to relieve my own anxiety. I am doneYou took the poop to get tested after you had already treated with Corid correct?
Your story of losing your first bird sounds like coccidiosis to me.
I am sorry.
We can't change what has already happened so I think you should stop worrying about the past.
It's over with.
If I were you I would not do anything or give these last chicks anything but a complete chicken feed and plain water.
There is nothing more to try...you have already tried so many things and I am concerned you are trying too many things.
I hate to be so harsh sounding but stop for a minute, and take a deep breath.
