That was a hilarious story. I'm sure it wasn't at all funny at the time... I'm sure you're relieved to have four of them caught.

Ah yes, very happy to have my babies safe and sound. It was not funny at the time, but as I was picking up blankets, coats, shirts and all my clothing that was strewn about I couldn't help it but laugh. My ducks are very clean though so I'm glad they got into some real water. I had been waiting until they feathered out to supply them with water to bathe in. I had heard if you put them in too soon it will mess with the oils. Now they are so soft and CLEAN and shiny.

I will say that I thought of all of you while tromping through the woods after those ducks. I thought "they are not going to believe how I messed this up"

The process of catching them was spelled out for me quite nicely by a few of you. I was supposed to herd them very calmly and orderly into the pen. The ducks had other plans for me

ducks get distracted very easily....I had to carry both of mine back home today after an extended stay at the pond....Squeek was willing but could'nt take 3 steps without stopping and messing with something. I'm getting tired of looking like an idiot talking to birds.....so I pick her up hoping Buddy will get the hint. Of course not. He just stands there looking at me like a pig with a wrist watch.
Shes soaked. I think they plan this. Took her to the house to her freshly cleaned pen and returned for my "big duck"...He was now ready to go home just too lazy to walk so I have to carry him too. He's like a baby when he;s tired...Carried with his head over my shoulder like you would hold an infant. Big Duck, huh? Buddy DID show me a new trick though....he learned to dive like his girl does and they both would dive and stay under water together for 3 or 4 seconds... They never fail to impress.

Not nearly as dramatic as a foot pursuit across the county...but typical for ducks, big or small.

Welcome to my world !

The funniest thing happened on the 26th. I was doing some things around the duck pen and looked over at the ducks and counted SIX. The two drakes that were in the pond had made their way across both bridges and to the duck pen 10 steps from my back door. They must have heard the ducks quaking and come to find them. It took them a week but they found them on their own.

How funny they were, they kept trying to get into the pen but the wire was preventing them. I was able to go over to them and pick them up and lift them over in with the others. OH HOW HAPPY THE DUCKS AND ONE DRAKE WERE TO SEE THEM. You would have thought they were long lost relatives the way they hugged and kissed each other. I watched each of the four go love all over the two drakes one by one. It was quite moving actually, their little family is back together again.

eta: Duckdad: I am very impressed that you go to that extent to get your ducks to a pond to enjoy. Your a great duck daddy.
