you are on the outside of the ice aren't you. I live in Ohio and on the edge of that snow belt from the lake effects. The belt is cool, I drive down SR 42 for a while and have not a flake of snow then cross into it and snowing like crazy. Its weird you can stand on one side nothing step over and it snowing like crazy.

I have some due to hatch Thursday and I am concerned about the weather. I am hoping everything will go well. This is our first hatch. We have no idea what we are getting (we were given several eggs from someone who has a little of everything).

Just a few years back , when the wind storm , when thru Ohio , we lost power for a week. Had eggs ready to hatch, I place a candle in incubator, lower shelf..temp as you see was ok. I did open incubator for fresh air. Hatch about 40 chicks out of 48 eggs.

Note the candle, and temp reading.....

I just got chicks yesterday so need to keep them warm.....using hand warmers and hot water in bottles kept warm on wood stove. Need to get some groceries so may look at a small generator just in case. I also have 6 silkies due to ship from 2 places in the East that I'm hoping they'll hold until this blows over...I'd hate to have them stuck in transit in that kind of weather! Good luck everyone and remember...we may all be on BYC withdrawals for a bit.....

Warning for those going to buy generators...know how many watts your incubator pulls , most heaters pull alot. So match the watts on generators

"we may all be on BYC withdrawals for a bit" Not if you have a smart phone. The back up plan when in the dark. AHHHHH praises to technology

I do have a smartphone....I just like sitting at my computer with the heater blowing on my feet LOL. And if the battery dies I'll have to go outside to the truck to charge it if we lose power for several hours.....not to mention if we lose power we don't have water. The plan is to but a VERY large generator this summer so we'll never have to worry again!
