Sad news third chick was to weak and passed in the shell. I only did this after talking to the breeder and tapping the egg. There was no response so I started and pipped the egg, no movement or anything. It stopped absorbing the yolk. Hard lesson as a newbie to hatching but better to experience this loss now than down the road. Only good thing is I have two strong healthy chicks and will be getting my replacement eggs to hatch.

Yes...3 sons....lovely young gentlemen.
The Honas are new to me...my 12 year old claims them too.
Last ditch effort to connect with my youngest before he enters teenhood. :D
I was close to the older two--and then hormones hit. :-\

Love these all black birds. Getting more through a mail order.
I'm totally hooked.
These guys are very friendly...fly right to us when the coop is opened.
We have never had chickens before, but what a way to begin. :)
Rooster hormones are something we have yet to discover, but---with 2 teens already...We know to smile and duck.
and cover their heasd with black cloth. LOL
I'm kidding, but have heard roosters are snots, just. like . teen. boys.
We have all boys---so....

@HonaHelp
I was super worried about having a rooster. My rules were he had to be nice to the girls and he had to respect me. If he passed those and I could stand the crowing he could stay. LOL Now I have two boys cause they both passed and I can't let such a nice rooster be dinner.

With 3 boys you should do just fine with a rooster!

Can a rooster lose his voice? Cause I let the kids out and Big Boy has not stopped crowing!

I'm pretty sure if he keeps it up he's going to lose his crow. Ha Ha Ha
I have had them lose their voice before but it isn't common. he will lose interest in his crow (eventually)

Wow--you can tell spring is around the corner! Lots of missed conversation since I was last on BYC! I don't get notified anymore when there's new comments even though I have it set up that way...anyways, nice to see all the new members and all the new chick arrivals, or countdowns. I'm trying to not be tempted by chicks this year...again...but may fail ..again. I still have a Buckeye, 2 Welsummers and a Speckled Sussex alive and kicking from my first year road trip to Meyer Hatchery, plus an EE the same year, 2009 -- and a Lavender Silkie and a Mille Fleur D'Uccle that I've had 7 years. These old ladies will be here till the end--have a soft spot for them...but I really want some babies, as usual! 32 birds total right now so need to be practical...I guess. Would anyone have need of a beautiful cockerel? I have two, hatched at the end of May 2016--Blue Splash Marans x Bluebell (Leghorn cross hen). They are beautiful, non-aggressive but I already have my rooster quota filled. Plus, if they find new homes then I'd have room for chicks...just sayin' :) If you're interested, I'm northeast of Delaware--just message me !
Oh my gosh! He looks just like my Davey! (Except ear and leg color) I never knew what he was and people on here have told me Andalusian.
