They are about 10- 11 weeks old right now it looks like we may have 5 roos but with buckeye it's hard to tell. When they start to crow then we'll know for shure. Looks likeI'm only an hour west of you in brown co., just off of 32.

I received a letter fro the OPA concerning Ohio NPIP, has anyone else received this letter with all kinds of legalese concerning a new updated contract with the OPA?

I am concerned about government's slow but sure noose around backyard farming.

Hey Guys.

I am in Malta which is real close to mcconnelsville, any one semi local happen to have any chicks/ chickens up for sale.

Lookingfor brown egg layers/ dual purpose bird.


I drive up 60 to zanesville to work so the zanesville area would work as well.

Just wanted to say Hi. I didn't realize they had all these different forum sections on here.

Anyway, just raising our first chicks. A friend hatched them for us for fun, so we knew going into this not to expect too much. We have at least 1 confirmed rooster, 1 probable rooster, and 1 baby turken. So probably not much going to happen with us this year. I don't know if we should look into getting some already started pullets or just wait until next spring and start again. Seems like a waste of a coop at this point, but its also a certain size and I loved having the chicks, so I'm sure I'd want more every year. So I'm leaning towards just waiting until next year. Especially with our winters.

We're in Northeast Ohio since everyone else seems to be on the other side or way south.

I'm in north-central Ohio and by the time I got ready to get chicks last year it was mid-October. I didn't want to wait until this spring, so I got hatchery chicks that were hatched on 11/3. They all made it through the winter fine, and they're laying like crazy this summer. It's not too late to try again this year with another batch--and you can order all girls.

Located in Van Wert, Ohio. Getting ready to start a flock of about 10 to 12 birds soon. Any advice on where to get birds would be nice. I am looking at some online sources and we also have a Fair coming up at the end of August.
