OHio ~ Come on Buckeyes, let me know your out there!

Good morning folks. Good morning @Luv Ducks and @HenriettaPizzaNolan! Years ago, I used to have many kinds of wild ducks and the first thing I learned was how to pinion the chicks. I had a bad experience. A person that sold some wood ducks and shipped them to me pinioned as adults! the day he shipped them to me. I picked them up from Cleveland airport and when I opened the box the whole inside of the box was blood covered! they had been jumping around and busted the pinion wing tips open it was truly a mess poor babies. they eventually healed up and were fine, but I would never let that happen again. So, I learned to pinion them when they are in or around five days old. The ducklings don't seem to notice and if it starts bleeding you can put some form of clotting powder on that area.
Wow, that's sad to hear! Lesson learned.

And good morning! I hope everyone and their flock has a nice day! I think the weather might be a little better today and tomorrow (at least here in Cleveland).

Hey, I found the Ohioans thread! :D
I'm originally from the Akron/Canton area, lived in the Cleveland suburbs for 23 years before we bought a home on 18 acres in SW Medina county. We're getting chickens this fall - I have an order for August for Cinnamon Queens, Buff Orps, Cuckoo Marans, and Barnevelders. I hope to add a few Easter Eggers later on (already accounting for chicken math!). Fortunately, I'm only about a 40 minute drive from Meyer.
Hello neighbor! I live in the next county over, Lorain. But hubby and I are looking into land in southern Ohio, it's getting too crowded here for us and we want land. Your 18 acres sounds about right, nice find!

Good morning to you and I also have pinioned some of my own ducklings. They could still get up about 4 feet though so I might not have taken enough off but the nerve ending is not at the tip of the wing when they are that young and they do not feel it. It's like cutting their toenails. Thanks for letting me know you also have done this. Some people think it is cruel but when the chances of them getting eaten by the neighbors large dogs if they fly then this keeps them safe for sure.

Good morning all Buckeyes. If anyone wants to stop in for a visit, they are welcome here just make sure to PM me. I don't want company when the Swans are protecting. I have an outer electric fence and the Cob will hit the inner horse fence if a stranger comes near. I live not far from the intersection of interstate 90 and RT 11 in Ashtabula County.

Good morning Debbie, I hope you have a wonderful day. 🌷
Good morning and I hope your day was wonderful too. My one Mallard Sister has deserted the nest for some strange reason and two of the eggs have been eaten. They are on 1 week of sitting. I got them some oyster shell in case it is a diet problem. I have never had two sharing a nest before so I am not sure what is going on. I was shocked she could even get out of the Pet Gazebo they are in. It has a 6 foot netting around it but only a 3' board for a door. She must of flown over the door and I had recently clipped one wing but she made it out somehow. I hope yours are all doing well.
