If it were me I would put them together now! Since they are all still smallish they should do fine. I put a 3 week old in with 5 day olds and they did fine. I would make sure you have PLENTY of food and drinking space, as well as overall space for them all to be able to move towards / away from the heat source as needed. Since they will have different needs as far a temperature go I would suggest your brooder have the light set up at one end and a much cooler end available for the older ones. As they age they will probably be able to acclimate to the same temps. After all, there will be plenty of friends to snuggle with if they are chilly, just don't make it too hot!Ok all you experienced Buckeyes.
I am sooooooooooooo new at this.
I have 25 various breeds that are 4 weeks old.
I also have 14 various breeds that are just a week old.
When can I combine the two groups?
Hello! I'm in Knox County Ohio! My family used to have some chickens, geese, and ducks. Now that I'm an adult I wanted to get chickens again! So the chicks will be here around June 26. Looking forward to getting them, building some waterers and feeders! I've seen a lot of stuff on this website! The 12 chicks coming will be welsummer, buff orpington, rhode island red, and delaware!
Just watch them and see how they behave. I bought some Golden comets back in March and some Buckeyes and Barred rocks in April. The GCs are in a pen that will eventually become their laying pen, but they can get out fairly easily. I put the chicks (along with our three week old turkey poults) in a grow-out pen before we move them to final quarters. The GC's will leave their pen, join the little guys for breakfast and eventually leave by mid morning. So far they haven't bothered the little ones at all. I would think if you have all or mostly pullets, you should be okay if you have them in a big enough area. If you're really worried, you can put a dog crate in that is wide enough for the little guys to escape and get away from the big ones who can't fit through the bars. Or an Ohio Brooder will let the little chicks under it and the big ones won't be able to get to them.Ok all you experienced Buckeyes.

I think there's an organic bulk feed guy in Fredericktown. Are you anywhere near there? So many new Ohioans since I last checked this page, welcome to all!![]()
Here's a topic: Who feeds organic? Where do you buy it and is there any bulk options near you? I have many feed mills near me but none stock organic grains so I am interested to know if any other do.
How cool! Yes there do seem to be many of us! I'm so excited to get the chicks! They'll be here between June 26th and June 28th. I haven't had chicks since I was a kid.Hi, AmysChickens. We are in Marengo and will be showing at the Morrow Co. Fair the end of August. Seems to be a LOT of chicken people in this neck of the woods.
