OHio ~ Come on Buckeyes, let me know your out there!

Ok all you Buckeyes!
I am freaking out a bit.
Just started with chicks in April. All is well.
Got my first 25 chicks from Mt Healthy Hatchery.
All are still alive!
Got the second 15 from Meyers Hatchery and one was DOA in the box.
Lost another one on Mothers Day of all days.

Today in the paper was an article about how chicks from Mt Healthy have been linked to a salmonella outbreak!

Not able to find out what if anything I should do.

Help!!!!!

I ordered 6 six chicks from Mt. Healthy back in March. They're doing fine but I too was freaked out about the press lately.

I'm not sure if it applies to chicks as young as ours, but I've read you should keep an eye out for lethargy and yellowy diarrhea. Keep us posted on the health of your chicks. And good luck!

I'm pretty sure all chickens and ducks can carry salmonella. this is why you should wash your hands and also your eggs. I think that if you were raised around them and honestly if you don't wash often you kind of build a resistance to it though. Seems that the less you pay attention and more you are exposed to germs the healthier you stay

I was pretty sure of this.

I just remember my Grandma telling me the other day, something about if you've gotten chickens in ducks recently and have gotten sick, to call some number.
