OHio ~ Come on Buckeyes, let me know your out there!

Ok, I am in need of some massive help here. My daughter went out to feed her chickens Sat morning and found ALL of them dead. They were killed by raccoons. This included her 4 chickens that she was raising for her first 4H project. I have been searching all week for some older chickens for her since the fair is only 2 months away with no luck at all. She wants to show frizzles, showgirls, or silkies. I am willing to travel, I live in Butler County. I need these ASAP. She is upset about the other ones and upset because of right now she will not be able to show anything at the fair. Please let me know where I can buy some.
You may want to check with your County Extension office or Fair Board to see if you CAN replace them. Some livestock projects have "Possession" deadlines meaning that you can't purchase stock past a certain date and enter it in the fair. Our neighbor's dog killed all our turkeys and it was past the possession date for them, so we can't even do turkeys for the fair this year.

Hi I am from Columbus Ohio. I am looking for bearded buff silkies if anyone has any forsale. Also I would love to know about any and all activity, shows etc. in the Columbus area. Thanks. Terry

Wow! A thread for Ohioans! This is great! Thinking about raising some chickens next year after I get all of my "clucks" in a row.

I'm live in Madison (Lake County). We live right on the lake and was hoping to get some info on keeping the chickens warm during our winters. I plan on converting a horse stall in our barn into a coop.

Hi. I dont provide any heat for my chickens in the winter. Just give them a light that is sun rated to make sure they get at least 12 hours of daylight a day. I have never had a sick bird and still get an egg a day from my hens. Heat can actually cause sickness and disease to ramp up in the winter. They get used to the cold and will do just fine as long as you keep the draft out and keep their water from freezing.
