OHio ~ Come on Buckeyes, let me know your out there!

Wow! Just loving those fuzzy-wuzzy babies!! I want some!!! Lol. Please keeps sharing those pic... Love to see them and miss those puffballs. Why do they have to grow so fast?

My girls are having a big day... The coop door is open for the first time... I keep running out to see who will be the first one out. Here's some pics of the girls checking it out.

The coop is finally finished minus a little trim paint -which will have to wait until spring. ;)

Oh btw... These were posted direct from my iPhone using the mobile byc site.. Love that!!

Chickawawa, I would be interested in a few pullets but I don't have any trades. Check back with me in the spring if you want to sell a few. ;)

I can definitely attest to the fact that RI Reds are NOISY. My girls are always carrying on. But they are friendly and will eat out of my hand (or try to eat my hand as the case may be . . . )

NickeeChickee,

I would suggest reading your revised code. Here in North Olmsted (west side) it specifically lists chickens and lumps them and sheep and cows in with dogs and cats saying that they

1) can't be in public spaces
2) can't roam unattended
3) can't be noisy or be a nuisance.

You can usually find a copy of the city's revised code (ordinance laws) on the city website.

Happy future chicken owning!

Mellisa

Cute pics. Love your coop. Have to start building mine when the weather warms a little. Going to put big windows in just like yours. Nice !

I have a question for my fellow Ohioans, and more specifically those in Morrow County. I have a very small operation (18 chickens, 8 Araucanas). I sell a very few eggs because the local market's saturated and I've sold a few chicks on Craig's List. This is definitely not a business in terms of making a profit--I guess you'd call it a hobby farm at best. I do plan to try to breed show quality Araucanas and hopefully be able to develop my own line in time. Anyway, I'd like to be able to name my "farm." Does anyone have any info about what's involved legally, etc.? Thanks!

We're planning on coop building in the early March area...so we're still in planning phases (it's been almost a year of planning!!) I fairly certain at some point we're going to want to raise meat birds as well as hens. Do you suggest having a separate area for the meat birds to be kept from my layers?

If you raise Cornish Cross, YES! They are very messy, and all they want to do is eat. They will often not move very far from the feed, so they can mess up a coop very quickly.

If anyone is interested:
a friend and I are chicken partners and we have most of the breeds from Greenfire Farms. We will be selling chicks and hatching eggs from them as soon as they are laying. If you are interested, send me an email for prices as well as availability. Most are laying age, but haven't started yet, while others are laying already. We have Tolbunts, Cream Legbar, Rhodebar, Isbar, Russian Orloff (LF), Hedemora, Norwegian Jaerhon, Partridge Barthuhner (not available to pre-order yet), Bielefelder (not available to preorder yet), Swedish Flower Hen, Olandsk Dwarf, Jubilee Orpingtons, White American Bresse, Mille Fleur Leghorns (arriving tomorrow from Omelet Ranch!), bantam Chocolate Ameracauna, Serama, and possibly a few others.
