OHio ~ Come on Buckeyes, let me know your out there!

Anyone near Dayton have Turkey hatching eggs, poults or a breeding trio up for sale? Please respond or PM me.

I'm also trying to avoid chick days, but I have a feeling I'll be stopping by the TSC in Clayton once theirs come in.

For those of you just getting started in poultry or beginning with a 4-H-er, I would highly recommend the Bi-State Poultry Clinic at OARDC: http://www.oardc.ohio-state.edu/t02/eventview.asp?id=6359 We learned a LOT last year, met some great folks, and had a very eye-opening experience. It is the best $15 you'll ever spend.
That looks like a great event and I would like to go with my 9 year old who is considerring showing but it's 2.5 hours one way for us. Do you know if there is a similar event on the western or central portion of the state?

Thanks!

We just bought a rooster from a really nice man in Miamisburg who had a multitude of fowl, including turkeys and he is trying to downsize somewhat. I can try to find his number is you are interested. Let me know. I do see them occasionally on Dayton-Springfield Craigslist.

Leslie,

I will keep you posted on when the 4H Poultry section has Quality Assurance at the Fairgrounds (that's where we had it last year). They run a really good QA program that has a lot of the same information from the OARDC clinic, just not in the same depth. It's a good place to network with other poultry nuts even though a lot of us are there "for the kids" *cough, cough* to get some good ideas.

Sadly, no.

NE Ohio is where they have their poultry research facility. The campus has lots of pens where they are raising turkeys, chickens and what-not which is why they have the clinic there. It's worth the trip just to see the facility. John Anderson is the one who wrote the book on keeping turkeys for 4-H and a lot of the pictures in it are his. Pretty impressive how much better the turkey workbooks are than the chicken ones. If there is any way you can get there, I'd recommend it. They also have raffles and door prizes. The family I carpooled with last year went home with a dozen white leghorn chicks.

Great! Please do, Rick! I'm excited to meet other enthusiasts in the area and always looking to learn more about the chickies...Thank you!

I was in TSC last Friday and they said their chick days start this week. May not go back to TSC for a couple weeks just to be safe.

Ours too! Just barred rocks & two kinds of ducks... If it wasn't for the fact they were st run only, I might not have escaped!! Love the pallet coop! How many have you used so far! What's the dimensions? Looks about the size of ours (4x8) which is plenty big for our 10 pullets... Actually I think we could take on a few more. ;)

Unfortunately I haven't been keeping track of how many pallets we have used. Not too many though. I wanna say its 3ft by 7ft? The pallet on the base was that size and already had plywood on it, so we just used it as the base. We don't really have a plan, we are kinda just coming up with ideas as we go.
