OHio ~ Come on Buckeyes, let me know your out there!

Oh, how you tease lol. I much prefer bantams to LF. Breeds assorted?

full blood, assorted breeds. old English game, bantam cochins, depending on how many hatch, maybe some silkies.  possibly a few other breeds.

I may have to nab some Cochins if you have excess. Silkies might be nice, too, if you have extra, since it seems every silkie I've bought thus far (only a handful) has been a roo..

Ooh, thanks for the info. I didn't know about the bacteria. I'll be wary. Are brinseas all the cabinet-type? Forgive my ignorance, I know nothing of the hatching world yet. DH has sadly given me a hundred limit, so I figure styrofoam was my only option.
That's very kind of you! Thank you! I'm in Lucasville/Minford, but am up your way (I believe) all the time. What got me interested initially was wanting some Seramas, but the cheapest way to come about them is hatching eggs, so I thought I might try my hand at it. I'll talk to DH about it (I'm betting he'd lean more towards borrowing ((compensated, of course)) incubator space than buying one, because "it wouldn't become a regular thing" ((muahaha))..) and give you a PM. ^^

So far love my brinsea. Having an issue with figuring out how to keep the humidity high but I'm buying a sponge tomorrow to put in it. Lockdown is offically tomorrow but figured I'd have this problem. Mine is an eco 20 model. If you go to their website you can enter the code 2llamadrama for 10% off. One that holds 10 eggs is 79.99 without the code.I love how the tray inside is dishwasher safe. Hatch n wash it right away. All of my ccl eggs are doing great. My styrofoam incubator both of the other hatched I had weeping eggs and had to fight to keep the temp right. Many didn't make it to lockdown.

RIP mlaff  (I hope im not saying this for real soon) :lau

The fact that he has yet to notice the 3 I bought awhile is a good sign. Lol plus he didn't object when I said I was making a brooder out of our kids old toy box he built. Lol it is 8 feet long and 3 ft wide. All the babies I can fit in that. Hahaha. Told him today I am taking over our third garage specifically for chickens. He did hate that. But he has 2 other ones he can use.

sounds like you've done a good job of training him. if you want ill tell him about all the money your losing over not breeding

. of course he might kick my butt when he realizes it takes a while to make money at it.

I'm thinking out loud here, but I'm considering selling one of my Araucana (the true, tufted, rumpless breed) pens to make space. They are all non-standard colors (which is why I'm selling). The roo is single tufted and he has produced double tufts in his chicks. The hens (3) are all clean faced. Everybody is nicely rumpless, except one hen that has a few stray tail feathers. The roo is avid, but not mean with his hens (he would like more of them!), and sweet with people. One of the hens is extremely sweet, one is a bit flighty and the third is just average in personality. There is one really blue egg, one that's more green, and one in the middle of the two in this pen. All were hatched on 7/22/12 from hatching eggs from Ray_n_Debi on the Araucana thread.

This site will NOT let me add photos suddenly :( I posted pics of everybody last winter in the Araucana thread (they are Oriole, Lark, Sparrow, and Wren). The roo is birchen split with wild type, 2 of the hens are wild type, and one is brown red. I have been getting wild type (or wild type split with wheaten) and birchen chicks. I hatch only under broodies, but EVERY egg I have set out of this pen has hatched (a minor Araucana miracle!). I would be selling these for pick up (or possibly delivery) only.

If anyone is interested, please email me at [email protected], and I will gladly send pics. Thanks!

My girl is doing better. She has been a champ about letting us treat it. She freaks out a little about getting caught but once we have her she stays pretty still. I think i'm gonna call her B (short for baldy...lol). Just hoping that it doesn't get infected.

Thanks so much for everyones help and concern!

Lol. I think he would kill me if he knew what I write on here. I think he gets it. At least he talks to people like he does.

I figured out a new set up to add the extra coops I need withou taking up more of my yard. They have a huge run that I am going to split up and put the breeder coops on the other side. My new coop is huge too so I'm going to split it in half too. When all is said and done i will have 6 areas. I sat and figured out the square footage of each and I could have 5 pens on one side but I want to make sure they have extra room to roam. Maybe I should buy stock in chicken wire and lumber before I start.

I do think life will be easier once we get our new watering systems and feeding systems. I just got a new job working 3rd shift so ill let them out and give them food and water when I get home. I'm just hoping I can get a good start on breeders and get them in coops before it gets cold out. With a new job, 4 kids, and school 3 times a week it is going to be hard to get everything accomplished. But I've been told that if I can I should hatch eggs instead of buying chicks or juvies due to the risk of sickness........ Plus I like hatching and it is so much easier with this new incubator.

ive never owned a brisnea, but I knew you would like it better. Styrofoam incubators work, but plastic and wood are so much better. I hope one day to be able to get a large redwood unit, I hear they are the best. i need something with auto turning, and that has been the hold up.
