OHio ~ Come on Buckeyes, let me know your out there!

I would love to be able to find it here, but we have checked. That's really great for you to have someone so close! It seems that a lot of the organic, nongmo feed is way up north of here. I don't know why it is so difficult to find around here. Maybe there is someone on this thread near me that knows of someplace. That would be awesome!!

Mary Remley in Morningview, KY sells Hiland Naturals feed. It's non-GMO and they also have organic. She does a monthly delivery to Batavia and Kenwood. Her username is startingover on here if you want to look her up. There is also Dale Filbrun up in West Alexandria that mixes and sells organic feed.

Wow!  Can't believe how much I've missed since we've been on vacation the last couple of weeks....You all have been quite busy adding to the poultry world!
I spent the two weeks prior to our departure trying to re-home all the excess cockerels I ended up with from my 21 chick order in March (10-11 were boys...).  I kind of hated to sell/trade them but too many boys throwing their weight around at the ripe old age of 12 weeks!  I did keep one (with one EE still unknown if boy or girl) I think he's a Blue Copper Marans but he's kind of splash blue--he is turning out gorgeous though, but still crows like he's hacking up a hairball.
Looking forward to seeing if this swap gathering can work out--might be best if it doesn't though, willpower may weaken upon arrival.

"mlaff," did your Cream Legbar girls ever arrive?  If you really were only planning on keeping 3-4 and had 7 coming I'd be really interested in buying the remaining three.  It looks like you might be doing a swap for some others, so totally understand if not an option.  I'm just really interested in adding 2-3 CL pullets to my flock, but no more boys:)

"loveourbirds,' cannot imagine how in the world you are able to keep track of 600+ birds...I can't even keep count of my 23 lf girls, plus four bantams...well, the bantams are easier--they have their own coop/run and I can count to four easily...the larger group is constantly moving...kind of like herding cats.  Would love to see your place someday--admire your ability and appreciate your knowledge!

"baseballchick," So sorry to hear of your flock loss--that's awful!  Did any of the missing birds ever show up?  I've lost a BCM hen to what I believe was a Red Tailed Hawk--nothing but some feathers left, like an aerial hit, although she was a good sized bird.  No other explanation though--close to the house, middle of the day, we have two dogs and lots of activity--coyotes, raccoons and foxes around but not 20 feet from the house (between house and coop)...have had close calls by both Red Tailed and Coopers Hawks, but girls all screamed a warning and ran for cover--always when loose on the yard.  Anyways, sorry you lost any....and I like your call tag--baseball for you or a family member?

OK, enough rambling...oh yeah, one more thing..."Cluckitall," your Rhodebars are beautiful!  Didn't you have the incubator with Silkie and EE eggs at Champion Feed earlier this summer?  That was a great idea!  I went back near hatch day and of course they had only just begun...I only have one beautiful Silkie left, living with three MF D'Uccle hens, probably just as well I didn't see any more Silkies or the temptation may have been too great to resist!
Now, back to unpacking and laundry...and maybe go mess with the birds for a while:)

Sorry it took so long. But yes I do still have at least 2 I need to sell.

Hi fellow Buckeyes,

I'm new to this forum, and thought it would be fun to connect with some of you who are in my area. I live outside of Wooster, about 50 miles south of Cleveland. I've had chickens and turkeys for the last year and a half. I've got Welsummers, Americaunas, Buff Sussex, Isbars, Bourbon Red and Midget White turkeys, and a few other odds and ends. I buy organic grain for my animals and they eat a lot of grass and organic greens from my garden. I love to watch them peck around! I'm especially interested to know if anyone out there has or is interested in Buff Sussex and Isbars. Mine are about 3 months old, looking good, but haven't started laying yet. I'm looking forward to having a rainbow coloring of eggs. I already have nice dark brown eggs from my Welsummers and blue from my Americaunas. I don't have that many turkeys but want to keep a trio of each kind and we'll eat the rest. I don't like to think about the butchering process, but one of my goals in raising poultry is to eat meat and eggs from animals who have had a good life, lived like they are meant to live, and are cared for and respected during that whole process. If I went to the grocery and bought chicken because I didn't have the heart to kill mine, that would defeat what I am trying to do and would support the commercial poultry industry.

Wow, I have rambled on much longer than I expected to. I will look forward to hearing from some of you!

I am very interested in isbars. I am actually debating on getting some eggs to hatch if temps go down again. Well that and if I don't get killed soon for having a million chickens running around.:/
But I'm slowly getting to be exactly where I want to be in regards to the breeds I want. Isbars are #2, #1 being black silkies.

I totally forgot there are fairs by me this week and next week. Very excited. Hopefully I can find me a couple older chicks :D

Sorry it took so long. But yes I do still have at least 2 I need to sell.
Not a problem-- I figured you had seen how cute the babies were and changed your mind

so I was trying not to get my hopes up.
I am very interested in two (or more if you decide more than two need to go), definitely please keep me in mind. Please pm me the details, like how much you'd like for them, when you want them gone, where you're located, etc.
I am heading out of town this Friday, will be back by the 28th so I'm in no huge hurry (plus my dh has to pick up our dd's meaties for her fair project as they arrive next week while we're gone, so he'll have to care for them the first three days...can't ask him to set up another brooder while us girls are on our girls vacation:)
Anyways, thanks for letting me know--more chicks...cool!

Hey all, just came across this thread, (by back checking posts after one of you posted on a different thread actually, hope that doesn't sound too stalkerish).

Anyway, I read back several pages here and saw some mention of you folks getting together for a swap. Not sure where most of you ar e located, or if you are aware of a small twice monthly swap that happens at I-71 and St. Rt 73, Clinton County. Second and Fourth Sundays of the month, across the road from Caesar Creek Flea Market, or Treasure Isle I believe they now call it. $10 set up fee. I'm not affilliated with this swap other then selling birds occasionally, and mostly just going to socialize.

welcome to the thread!

Welcome Mstarr and Big Medicine! Arff113 your coop looks great! So today was a big day for me, I drove all over northeast ohio collecting up a brooderful of chicks! Blue Cochins, Welsummers, Blue Andalusians, easter eggers, and some double laced barnevelders, that I am now afraid will die, Thanks loveourbirds :). Everyone is doing well in the brooder. I came home to egg yolk droplets all over the backyard. I only have one pullet laying and her egg was in the box, although the other six are egg laying age. My first thought was an egg that broke in the chicken but I checked everyone's vents and cant even figure out who it is. This is a first for me any suggestions or advice would be helpful. I am having trouble uploading pics but I have a ton of fluffy baby pics for you guys.

im sorry ive scared you, they cant be impossible to raise; there are to many out there. I just have never found the right combination to raise them with my setup. I can tell you I wouldn't try to stay organic with them, and look them over each day. a few people have suggested crossing barnevelders with welsummers for diversity, then breeding back to barnevelders 8 generations to consider them "full blooded"

im not saying that is good advice, just some I have found.

as far as the yolk drops in the yard, you should easily see the liquid on the down feathers. I am almost willing to bet you have the start of an egg eater.
