OHio ~ Come on Buckeyes, let me know your out there!

Welcome to the Ohio Thread Big Medicine and Mstarr!

Big Medicine - How do the birds look at Treasure Isle? It's only about an hour for us (We are in Shelby County) but I remember hearing awhile back that many of the birds didn't look healthy and I didn't want to chance bringing anything home. I realize it's probably who's there on any given weekend but would just like some further input on it.

We just sold birds at an auction and not only got hosed on price, a real @$$h0!< bought my birds and I know they are not being properly cared for or handled. We will never go back there to sell.

Not a problem-- I figured you had seen how cute the babies were and changed your mind

so I was trying not to get my hopes up. I am very interested in two (or more if you decide more than two need to go), definitely please keep me in mind. Please pm me the details, like how much you'd like for them, when you want them gone, where you're located, etc. I am heading out of town this Friday, will be back by the 28th so I'm in no huge hurry (plus my dh has to pick up our dd's meaties for her fair project as they arrive next week while we're gone, so he'll have to care for them the first three days...can't ask him to set up another brooder while us girls are on our girl s vacation:) Anyways, thanks for letting me know--more chicks...cool!
Hehe, DH would KILL me if I kept them all. I reached my limit a long time ago and I'm not even finished yet. After the 28th works perfect for me. Between nursing school and training for my new job I'm busy until then.

Been there, I have taken a bunch of big ol heavy Brahma cockerels to a couple different actions. Some time maybe get a buck for them, then figure in their 25% cut, and you probably didn't cover gas money. Now I either sell direct, like at Caesar Creek, or have a deal with a local meat buyer with the understanding they are not to be resold, alive anyway, with some of my project birds..

As to the birds at the swap, like most swaps, vary in qualitity and condition, depending on the seller. I have seen some birds I would be leary of, but most look ok. It's a small swap, only been going a couple years now. I set up for the first time (this year) this past Sunday, had a pretty good stream of lookers/buyers come through. Had some repeat buyers.

I rarely bring outside birds into my flock, so have never bought any there, to date. Out of habit, I always change clothes and shoes before going out to my coops after going to any swap, or show.

Limits-schmimits...limits are made to be stretched

...sounds like you also have a lot on your plate so maybe we can plan on the end of the month or early August...I'm flexible.
I like that you have accepted the cold, hard fact that you aren't through yet....very realistic of you! I will be through soon...maybe..might have some Olive Eggers coming if things work out, along with yours of course! Sort of swapped my lovely excess cockerels with the idea that she might have extras later--regardless the boys had to go and I didn't want to eat them.
Where are you located? I'm in Delaware County, somewhat central for the state. Hopefully you're not too far away! And let me know how much you'd like for them...helps me to budget the egg money:)

OK, I have been gone for way to long. Where is the swap and when? You guys have lost me even though I have tried to read through it all.

Ugh I'm so upset with myself right now. Yesterday I noticed that one of my pens was a bit too crowded and my two silkie roos were getting stepped on, so I moved them to another pen with my BR, EE, sebrights and OEGB hen. I was concerned because the EE can be a bully sometimes but they seemed to get along just peachy. I went out this morning and they were great, too. I just went out a few minutes ago to make sure they made it through the heat ok and my favorite one, the blue silkie roo with SUCH a sweet personality, had the skin ripped right off the back of his head. My poor baby, it kills me to think he could have been suffering for hours. The worst part is just knowing in my gut the EE had something to do with it and I caused it. Thankfully my dad was here visiting and was raised on a meat chicken farm so he ended his suffering for me, lord knows I couldn't have done it myself.
Tried to upload a pic of the cutie but it won't post for some reason..hm.

How awful for both you and him--so sorry to hear of his fate.

You've got to ask yourself..did you put them in the other pen with the intent for harm, or were you trying to make things better? You checked twice and they appeared to be doing well. What's done is done. That really, truly stinks...but what if you had left them where they were and they got hurt or killed because you hadn't tried to improve things for them? You did what you thought was best, and for awhile, it was. Don't torture yourself thinking he was suffering for hours---animals have this great instinct and ability to sort of 'shut down' when they're injured--you made sure he didn't suffer as soon as you saw what had happened so in my opinion you acted responsibly overall.

One of those hindsight is 20-20 situations...learn from it but don't dwell on it--bottom line, you did what you thought was the right thing....the little velociraptor/s is/are the ones to blame for his demise. Again, sorry for your loss....

I'm so sorry shay! : hugs
I so agree with delcochix. Don't dwell, we live and learn.

Btw delcochix, I use to live in Delaware County on South Old State Road.
