OHio ~ Come on Buckeyes, let me know your out there!

Hi!

I'm in Geauga (Chardon) and new to chickens this year! I got some wonderful hatching eggs from a lady in Burton - almost a 100% hatch rate. She also sells home hatched chicks. All large breeds crossed with a buckeye rooster.

Cheers!

Tracey

I am only 10 or 15 minutes away from you. The best place I have found is a local feedstore. TSC sells everything but they only carry their own brand of feed, Dumor. I shop at a feed store called J&B feed. They have pretty low prices and its really close to my house.

If you need a coop built, let me know. My dad and I make rabbit cages and chicken coops for people in the area. We can make any size coop pretty much. Lol I am glad you found BYC and if theres anyhing else you need help with, just ask us!

Cody!!

Thanks Cody!
I did receive your email and appreciate the information. Sorry for the delay in response.

I think J&B is close by on Airport Hwy. Do they have more than one location?

In regard to a coop - we built a structure to house our four hens, however; we're rethinking its design ... especially now that we're talking about keeping the chickens through the winter. Any tips for a winter structure?

Should we decide to harvest the chickens this fall, do you know anyone around here that does that sort of thing?

Teri

Hey TerriNick50!! I'm in Fremont about 45 min.from Toledo!! My sister lives there so I go there often. If you are in need of any chickens I hatch out our own.We have tons of breeds just look at my signature below.I go to Gries seed and feed here to get what I need.
If you can run power out to the coop then get a water heater so the water doesn't freeze.Depending on the breeds you have, most do just fine during the winter.I rub patroleum jelly on the roosters combs and wattles so they don't get frost bite.I also spread scratch grain on the floor of the coop everyday to keep them busy and it heats them up.I also do a head of lettuce and tie it to a string and hang it so they can get fresh greens and keep them busy.I hope this helps and winter isn't all that bad if your coop isn't far from the house and if you have running water or electricity to it.I DON'T and it sucks!!

Our barn is an acre out and I have to haul water out twice a day and I only have solar lights out there. It's a drag!

Swap Meet Sept 27th

On the corner of ST RT 71 and 73
right across the street from Ceasers Creek Flea market is a place were people
set up "flea market style". I just got off the phone with the owner and told him what we
are wanting to do and he said we could have it there. I asked what the charge would
be and he said anyone that is setting up would have to pay like $5.00. I think this
would be a great great great place!! There are bathrooms and across the street is lots
of great food.
So now I am going to start a list of people that would like to come so let me know if you
would like to and also list what you have for sale or trade that you can bring and also
maybe what you are looking for. This doesn't have to be just chickens.
Lets plan on Sunday Sept 27th!!
If you google the address for this it is 7810 West St Rt 73 Wilmington Ohio

I also have a friend that has a AM radio show so i could see if he would advertise this
for us too.

you can read more about this from the link below
