I am located in Delaware county between Sunbury and Croton/Johnstown. Might be down your way in a couple of weeks to the fairgrounds for the dog show. People here on the list are planning a swap on Oct. 6 at the Champion feed stre on St Rt 36/37 just as you are going into Delaware. You might want to come. And welcome to the list. A lot to learn here.

I come home to a 100% hatch from my broody and my chocolate AM's are hatching a day early!!! I've got a very loud peeping chick in there. It's upside down in the egg but very strong and very vocal. Woohoo!

Quote: they are getting ready to put regulations on using DE due to it causing cancer. just so you all know... i dont know about the PDZ stuff, if your ammonia smell is that bad, it might be another issue. i use dry pine shavings (most of the time) we water outside of the pens. as a rule of thumb we only clean them once a month, and the ammonia smell isnt a problem.

here is the only post i can seem to find, its from the diary and notes - air cell displacement thread.

and in the news today....

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration proposed long-awaited rules on Friday to limit crystalline silica, a move it said would prevent nearly 700 deaths a year by reducing exposure to these very small particles that can cause lung cancer and other diseases.

“Exposure to silica can be deadly, and limiting that exposure is essential,” said David Michaels, the assistant secretary of labor in charge of OSHA. He estimated that the proposed rule would prevent 1,600 new cases of silicosis each year.

Oh no! We mix that in the dirt and love watching them having dust baths!

ive used it myself, in fact there is a bag out in the barn. 7 dust has similar issues too. i dont see where its to dangerous, but i wouldnt use it unless i needed it. thats part of the reason i switched to the ivomec though..... we dont eat our birds, it kills insects and worms them at the same time. i havent noticed any issues with fertility - we had issues with DE and 7 dust.

if i do plan on eating a chicken, i would not use ivomec for at least a month. on cornish rocks i raise i refuse to use any of this stuff.

I thought Roosters only tried to mate with Hens that are ready to lay... am I wrong in my thoughts on that?

My EE Rooster as awkward as it was held the neck of one of my little orps that hatched around July so it was a tiny little thing..
