OHio ~ Come on Buckeyes, let me know your out there!

if i had to guess, the orp is a cockerel.... the EE is showing dominance. of course you already know i dont let different ages run together, so someone else may have better insight on this.

I just toe punched my 14 day old bantam black split to choc orps. Did a lot of reading and everyone said they would bleed a little at this age. Not a drop! If it all goes that well I'm thrilled with the toe punch. The chicks didnt seem to mind it either. None chirped like they were in pain and are zooming all over the brooder like crazy.

Edited cause I had the age wrong.

Regarding the use of Sweet PDZ, I use it for both my horse stalls and the coop---works quite well and I wouldn't hesitate to test it out in a smelly coop. No chemicals or insecticides, simply a way to dry things up and eliminate ammonia, which is the source of the odor, and pretty harmful to the sensitive lungs of both horses and chickens. I do have DE also, use it sparingly when I've stripped out the coop and nest boxes--I like to sprinkle it, and the PDZ on the floor, poopboards, perches and nestboxes, and then re-bed it. Not a noticeable odor.
Here's the link to their website and they even refer to using it with chickens, along with a whole bunch of other critturs.

this us one off the bigger boys. You cab see his got some redness to it but otherwise is ok. I also noticed 2 of the boys have a couple tiny feathers on their feet/legs. It looks like a flap of skin in this picture but it's a feather. I'd say these guys might have some feather legged birds in the background.

Congrats on the 100% hatch rate minihorse927!
Thanks, not that i did much! The broody hen deserves the good job. This is her third brood this year. 2 batches at 100% and one batch at 80%. The 80% batch was call duck eggs so i can't complain. She sat for 26-27 days to hatch those!

Wow! You have a super broody! That is amazing that she knew to sit longer for the ducklings. What breed is she?

She's a mutt. Best we can figure is porcelain d'uccle and old English game or maybe mixed game. She has muffs and a beard but lays brown eggs. she looks like an EE but the lady had no easter eggers and she has some rather large porcelain d'uccle and the games running around. Mostly mixed and a few pure games.
