OHio ~ Come on Buckeyes, let me know your out there!

i meant how'd it go when dh found out about the incubator? Lol

Every time i stick my hand near the rooster and even one of the pullets they jump up and not just peck but latch onto my fingers! I couldn't believe it when it's happened. That rooster will be stew if he keeps it up

If need be I still have one more boy I can spare. I was going to put him in with the layers for protection but your more than welcome to him.

Nice setups and adorable critters mrdazed! Out of curiosity, what is the pigpen made of? Is that a pallet I see? We haven't managed to find a fencing material yet that will hold ours. Sneaky things. -.-

And I am happy happy! Even though I'm sick as a dog lol. Just checked on the 4 eggers in lockdown in the Brinsea and I have one pip. My first pip.
Wooohoooo! :woot. Go babies go!!!
He didn't say much. Just grunted and walked away. Haha. They are on day 3 and I'm about to check them before work. Too excited for these babies. Oh, I did put the polish in the coop today. No problems. Helped that I am down 4 mean old Roos officially. Felt bad for my two hens who were looking for their man, but I'm sure ey will find another one shortly.

Glad the polish fit right in. The hens will find a new love. My black and blue AM pullets that are 5months old now have taken to my EE roo. The escaped the grow out pen while I was feeding and spent the day out and they are in love with him. I don't have a roo yet for them (let's hope I hatched one or I hatch one) so I figure they can hang with him during the day for now and I just lock them up at night separate from the adults.

On a side note, one of my black orp boys orp that was split to choc dropped over dead this morning. I don't know why, they are about two weeks old now and all if them were acting fine last night but I got out of bed this morning and came to check on them and he was dead. :/

Oh no. Those mystery deaths always seem to be the best or favorites.. So sorry. :(

Me and him had a lesson today. He went to grab me first so instead I snatched him up and carried him around while I was feeding. I put him back and when I was out doing the night feeding he left me alone. The one pullet that decided to bite has calmed down some. I did the same to her and instead if latching onto my finger she just pecked at it while I was getting their feeder back down to them. Figure it might take a week or two but I'm determined to break them of it. Apparently the two of them just dislike me. Idk...

Is anyone else having horrible Fox issues in Ohio this summer. I can't catch this one so to ensure my flock gets free range. I get home from work and sit there and watch them till they get tired and go in barn to roost. Getting old!
I had some fox issues a few years ago, but I think the coyotes have pretty much taken over the beat now. We have been here since 2001, got the coop rehabbed and birds moved in 2002. Free ranged my birds up untill last year, when between the mid day coyote attacks, and the fact the birds where so gunshy they would hardly leave the shadow of the coop unless I was out there with them, I decided to keep them in their fenced runs.

But I have hopes a Anatolian Sheperd/Great Pyreneese pup I got will grow into something that may allow me to free range again someday. She is about 6 months old now.

i just realized i have been spreading some false information. im sorry to anyone who i may have confused with this, and i want to set it straight.

for years i have been reading about how DE is a descent bug killer and wormer. i was called on this on another thread, so i decided to look up the "scientific" end of it. DE is effective on crawling, slimy insects for the most part, such as snails. as far as insects with legs, it pretty much does nothing. as for working as a wormer (and i should have used my head on this one) the amount you would have to administer to kill worms would be enough to "shred" the linings of the chicken's digestive system.

along with its potential of causing respiratory problems, including silicosis; and chickens being prone to respiratory problems themselves, i have decided to quit using it altogether.

it does have a few advantages i mentioned before, broiler strain chickens with DE added in small amounts in their water did have a better feed to weight conversion, and stronger better formed bones. in the same article, i noticed they did not describe the feed as anything other than grower crumbles. a good quality feed may already have enough silica in it to do the same thing.

lol naaa i dont scare easy.ya i have it posted on craigs but alot of ppl on that website are shady.or want to trade me some random off the wall stuff lol.i just had to go outside and check on the ducks.they started making alot of noise, they only do that when there scared so im assuming there was a fox or something out there.didnt see anything though.
