botulism shows up like wry neck in poultry, unless they are turning their heads upside down, or putting them between their legs - its probably not botulism.
flu will show up as mucus under the wings, usually chickens who die from it are lightweight and "lazy" for a week or more.
mereks will show up as them getting dizzy, or weird twitches - similar to vitamin deficiency in silkies. they will *usually* walk around on their hocks.
