OHio ~ Come on Buckeyes, let me know your out there!

botulism shows up like wry neck in poultry, unless they are turning their heads upside down, or putting them between their legs - its probably not botulism.

flu will show up as mucus under the wings, usually chickens who die from it are lightweight and "lazy" for a week or more.

mereks will show up as them getting dizzy, or weird twitches - similar to vitamin deficiency in silkies. they will *usually* walk around on their hocks.

it will be in the morning hours tuesday, im going from coal dock road to wheelersburg, i can go down your road if you need it.

did you buy anything from the poultry building at Lucasville? if so PM me.

Ooh! Lots of great info there. Thanks! Strangely, none of them had any of those symptoms. Besides the three that died the next night who acted weak, none of the others showed symptoms of any kind. And nope, none from the poultry barn. The only ones I got then are still in quarantine and seem fine.

Not sure which way you'd go down to burg but if it's out of your way at all, I'm sure I can find some grit at Circle M in Minford or have DH pick some up at TSC before work. :)

Anybody in northeast Ohio maybe looking to add a roo or 3? I have a beautiful Buff Brahma/Easter Egger mix, about 6 months old. And I also have 2 Buff Brahma/Barred Rock mixes, about 5 months old. They look like rocks, but built like a brahma. 1 has feathered feet.

Get your vet to refer you to the Ohio State Ag department in Reynoldsburg.  You do need a referral from a vet, but you should be able to get your vet to just call them., with no fee.
Last time we had a necropsy done there, it was $60.00.  That was a few years ago though.  But definitely worth the money, and they are fast compared to some.

Just had a necropsy done at Reynoldsburg, it was $100, since my vet is retired they only charged her $20!

Does anyone in the columbus area have hens that lay white eggs? I'm not picky on what breed, we have brown eggs, blue eggs, chocolate eggs, and my husband wants white eggs. I prefer 2 hens that are already laying.

There's a guy last name of Weiss that raises Blue Andalusians. They're very pretty birds and lay white eggs. He lives in Morrow Co (just north of Delaware Co.) if you don't mind coming up this way. I can PM you his number if you're interested.

Got a little snow last night; about an inch. Went out this morning to let the chickens (5 RIR from TSC) out of the coop and normally they are lined up at the door ready to shove it open and run down the ramp. This morning two of them poked their heads out the opening, looked around, and stopped. Someone in back must have shoved because one of the two wound up about a foot down the ramp. She promptly turned around and went buffaloed her way back inside. They all promptly disappeared back into the coop. hehehe

Went out a little bit ago, shortly after noon, to check on them and collect eggs. One was outside scratching in the leaves and snow. One was standing about half way down the ramp looking around. She promptly turned around and went back inside. As I was collecting eggs, I could hear the four of them in the coop just complaining to beat the band.

They really don't like snow.
