I called them and they said they had to send them to keep my chicks warm or else they would have died. they also sent me the wrong colored silkies. I was supposed to have 3 white and 3 blue. they sent 5 white and 2 blue. I won't be ordering from ideal again anytime soon. I think they are going to refund me some money.

at the same time if they didn't send them then the desired chicks would have died in shipping. There's always someone to take free chicks

I was glad to see that all of the chicks survived. even the extras. I would try to keep a couple roosters but I have a tiny coop and my run doesn't have a full roof and they would tear my girls up if I kept them. I hope to find then a home soon.

Hi - I'm in OH and am trying to find 4 chickens who've been exposed to mareks a good home. I'm moving and cannot take them. Does anyone have a mareks flock that would be willing? 2 ee pullets, 1 partridge silkie hen, 1 white silkie roo (he has not been vaccinated, the others were). I'm pretty desperate, I cannot cull them.

Sorry I responded with what I said. I have never ordered from hatchery and just didn't sound right to me to get a bunch of extras that could all be roos. If anything I would thing they would vent sex and limit the amount they sent. My appologigies!

it's ok. If you haven't ordered from a hatchery you don't know. If you order less than 15 or so chicks, they send whatever they have as extras and they're typically all boys. Now, I'll admit they should have sent more of the same breed. I ordered some chicks from cackle hatchery this spring. I ordered 10 chicks and 25 ducklings. They shipped 11 chicks and 27 ducklings. The extras were more of the same things I ordered.

I'd call ideal and ask what the extras were. Ask if they only send extra roos as heat.

While I picked up my six from Meyer because they are only an hour away, I'm pretty sure they wouldn't do that. They only have those limits in the cold months.

Anybody go to the Lucasville swap this weekend ? Or Chillicothe the week before, for that matter. Just curious how it went ? Gave serious thought to going, just couldn't justify the $4.00 gas just to look around.
