OHio ~ Come on Buckeyes, let me know your out there!

Cool thank you! @minihorse927

Just curious - when do yours stop laying? Do you supplement heat or light?

Thanks!
I do not provide heat or light just because they stop laying. I do give my ohiki heat just for the sake of keeping then from freezing to death. I start supplementing some light in the middle or late January to get them back going once their molt is complete and the feathers are all back in.

No eggs since October here either, but I also moved in October & have temporary crappy coops up with no electric for lights this year. My annies & turkeys started laying in Feb last year. Chickens never stopped with lights.

Mine seriously slow down in October but don't stop. I have a 6 year old EE who molts to nakedness every year about November/December. She has laid 2 or 3 dozen over the winter even with me moving her into the barn a few times to keep her warmer. I don't use heat. I do leave the lights on in the barn when I leave it closed up during the day and don't always make it out to turn it off until late. The coop where my large fowl stay doesn't have electric.
I'm interested to hear how others birds lay in the winter around here.

Welcome to BYC @Watermelon123 ! Glad you joined us here in Ohio. So, what type of birds do you have?

Re: Egg laying.....Mine stopped laying in October for about a month during molt. Then started back up. I put a 40 watt fluorescent bulb on one of those clamp lamps out there and I get eggs everyday. Much lighter than usual, but at least 1/2 of what they normally lay. There is no heat back at my coop. Hard enough to run the light back there. 3 very long extension cords. Got 17 yesterday--- out of 40 hens.
