OHio ~ Come on Buckeyes, let me know your out there!

Lol, great story or your childhood! You can house them together but beware of the mud situation. Chickens don't tolerate the mud like a duck will. It's better if you can house them seperately.

Yes, you substitute 1 duck egg for 2 chicken. You can eat them like regular chicken egg, they taste a little stronger though. They're not tough or any different in texture.

I'll get back with you.more later, I have to go to work. :/

We are newer to the backyard chicken fun. Live outside of Cambridge, OH. 5 Buff Orpingtons that is soon to grow to 10 or 12. Have enjoyed the forums and have learned a lot from all of you.

Welcome to BYC! I have 2 Buffs and just got 2 buff chicks. We will probably get more soon because they grow so quickly and they are good egg layers. We also have 62 other chickens.

@minihorse927 , I separated one of the young CCLs I got from you into a breeding pen day before yesterday. I gave him 6 EE hens.

I also have the older rooster with the 2 CCL hens. Hoping egg production picks up. I have the incubator, just no eggs

.

Since the cold seems to be slowly going away, I am going to take all the steps to get egg production back. We did have a bunch of extension cords stretched out the 3 acres to the lean-to coop. Somehow, it quit. And we think somehow the electric was going into the ground. Therefore spiking up our electric bill

. Anyways, no more light in the coop. Just a sliver of natural light.

I know the feeling! I seperated my swedish flowers out and I got 5 eggs after that and now no eggs! I keep hoping to go out there and find some eggs from them! I have barn lights running from 530 or 6 am till 9 and 10 pm so I know they are receiving plenty of light. Plus they get sunshine inside there. I think they just said the heck with this. Cooped us up in this dang stall and won't let us out and forced us to live with the black based rooster! :p. And then you locked up 6 ducks with us! (It's a big area, they're not cramped up) I really think they're just mad and refuse to lay. I want sfh babies of my own. They need to get with it. I've got 3 I hatched from someone else's eggs on the brooder now. My chocolate orps I have left are doing an ok job with an egg or two every couple days. The ohiki have slacked off some but seem to be picking.up with the warmer weather

I bet that boy is happy to have 6 girls of his own too! I'm glad to see you're enjoying them and they're happy and healthy. Hopefully once you fix your lights they'll get busy laying.

The chocolate pullet is 8 or 9 months and laying but the cuckoo are 4 to 5 months old so it will be a while before they lay!
