OHio ~ Come on Buckeyes, let me know your out there!

Well I head to Detroit sunday for a 3 week job training stint. I will only be home over the weekends and will more than likely run to my coops first. I made a detailed care list for my husband and son. (yes I know it may not be followed to a t) The guys are great with them but they don't do things like I do, but it works as well. I am going to miss my chicken watching and training the Cochins will be set back unless Jeff can get them to respond to him.The 2 pullet cochin have been coming when called while Stumpy looks at me and only comes near if treats are offered. They guys are rather nervous should any unfortunate things occur with my birds while I am away. We have figured out my mothering instinct has gone to chickens since our son is 22. Has anyone else done this? lolol!

My new camera arrived so I had a test run of it yesterday. I wanted to share a picture of my new little pips. They were full of energy even after I put them in a box to try and slow them down.

Thought I would ask here being its an Ohio "site" are any of you N.P.I.P. certified and if so who did you get a hold of to do it. I'm going crazy trying to figure this all out.lol. Thanks in advanced.

Can you PM me too? Someone gave me some information earlier this year and now I can't seem to find it

I would like to do it after I get my numbers down for the winter.
Yup Pm'ed you too

Well, of the 12 Buckeye chicks we got this spring, 2 died early in the brooder and 7 of the remaining 10 turned out to be roosters. :he

So, sent two of them to freezer camp this past weekend. Going to send four more to freezer camp this weekend. And, will keep one.

Friend of mine showed me a very simple way to process them that doesn't involve scalding and plucking. :D

Also found a good article over on Backwoods Home that takes the skinning one step further and yields a bit more meat (http://www.backwoodshome.com/articles2/grim79.html). Might try the BWH method with two of the four remaining roosters so that we can have a couple carcasses to cook up and can for broth.
