OHio ~ Come on Buckeyes, let me know your out there!

I have silkie hatching eggs available. I will have 1 dozen more available before I split my pens for breeding, so it would be an assorted group (blue, splash, black and partridge). Since my pens aren't separated you may get a showgirl or two

PM me if interested - Oh, I'm in the Marengo area and I go into C-bus for work and can meet up if easier...

Thank you so much for your quick reply and offer. I think I have decided to get day old chicks instead. Thanks anyway.

Yesterday was a record with 5 eggs from the 10 ladies... so at least I know 1/2 of them are laying! Oh and we got our first Easter Egger egg on the day before Easter - a lovely blue green! So cool!! But now I'm thinking I need a few more hens that lay interesting eggs.

Yet, I think you may be the first person I have seen that is close to me on here. I was starting to think I was the only one. I need to talk my husband into letting me get some more chicks and head over there. :celebrate
Hi!
We pick up our chicks on Monday the 8th. We were going to build a coop but decided to partition off part of the shed for the chickens. What part of town are you in?

So...I have a group of Olive Eggers that I hatched out that are now 6 weeks old. I've only hatched silkies so I am totally lost as to how to tell if they are pullets or roos. Anyone want to stop by my place near Marengo and let me know? LOL! Or any suggestions?????

Since OEs are crosses between 2 kinds of chicks that we have I'll share what I know.

With Ameraucanas I read that longer tails indicate pullets. There is definitely a big descrepancy between our 6 in tail growth but mine are only 4 weeks so time will tell. In my older BC
Marans chicks, the comb is definitley larger and darker in the one the breeder told me was a cockeral.

Hopefully this helps some. We plan on hatching out OEs next year so I'm interested to see how sexing them pans out for you!

I am relatively new to this chicken thing, but have gotten engrossed rather quickly. Hence, I will be having some upcoming hatches that will most likely have a number of chicks that will need to go to someone else's coop instead of my own! So, just wondering how I find out about Swaps and Auctions in Ohio. I googled it, but it was very confusing. Anybody know where to find an updated list or something similar so I can perhaps find homes for the upcoming extra chicks? Gonna try Craigslist of course and phone a few 4-H'ers too. (My DH doesn't want to do the Freezer Camp route.)

What kind of chicks are you hatching and where are you located? I may be interested, if my DH won't kill me. My chicks are supposed to hatch tomorrow but I had a big issue with my incubator. Lets just say from now on I need to keep an eye on it 24/7 so my DD can't even get close.
