OHio ~ Come on Buckeyes, let me know your out there!

I'm trying to avoid the house thing with her. I only bring them in if they are deathly ill. They play in the creek all day and I'm thinking I'm going to have to keep her penned up for a few days till it heals up some more so she doesn't get anything funky from the creek. I was gonna sell out of the pekins next year, looks like someone else made plans for me! Now I'm gonna be worried if I would let her go to someone else they wouldn't take care of her. I'll have to try to find some terramycin opthamalic. I use to keep it around here but lately it is impossible to find. She seems to be doing ok with it, she panicked and ran into the fence earlier but the drake went and started to direct her where she needed to go. He is extremely protective of the girls. He tries to attack me for trying to treat her. Her other eye is fine. I know it will take some time for her to get use to her new disability but so far she seems ok. She keep shaking her head is they only thing I noticed that makes it look like it bothers her. Dang ducks! 3 years old and never even a scratch and then one pulls this...

Thanks for advice. I've seen what others have done but never had to deal with it myself. I feel and for her that it happened and I just don't get why it looked so good this morning and then bam, this.

Hmm, wonder if i can use the wound ointment for flies that I use on the horses around they eye? It's called swat. Thinking under and around the sides to keep the flies away.

my last eye infection made me feel so bad. I was putting DE in the bedding and got some in a SProck bantam's eye. she lost her eyeball, it was still pretty cool so flies weren't that bad yet. I cleaned it out and put some ointment on it. it took a while to look descent but it healed over fine.

I tried to find the eye ointment too - the stuff I used was like Neosporin. all I can find is vetricyn now but it should work.

that may work, id just watch about getting it in the socket.
that's why I'm thinking about 1/2inch away and not go over the top of the eye. She hasn't been rubbing it on anything just shaking her head back and forth. She flips her head occasionally with that side facing the ground. I just feel so bad it happened and I don't know how!

Sorry the pictures are so big and please ignore my daughter's messy room and her lack of clothing. LOL I'm glad I live where I do because she would live naked if I would let her.

LOL! I was the same way hen I was a kid. Yeah, with a lot of the ccl's the autosexing has been getting fuzzy, from what I hear. That's why I'm really trying to select for that in breeding them, which requires clearly marking all the chicks -- otherwise by the time they grow up I forget who was who. It's really hard to tell for sure -- at a guess I think 1, 5 and 8 might be girls, but I really am guessing, here!
