Sorry Baseballchick! I certainly hope they come home. If it was only 1 hawk, I don't think it would take that many at once. I have had 1 at a time come up missing over the years, except when the dog got into them. Even a fox will usually only get 1 at a time, especially the same day. At least that has been my experience. So don't lose hope. like you said, they just may be hiding.

I will be checking many times to see if they come back, hoping they may be hiding somewhere.

We had a falcon take 2 within about 2 hours time. It's rough not knowing what is going on with them when you are a caring owner. If you don't see signs of a struggle, chances are they are hiding out until they are sure it's safe to come out. Ours (other than "#2) hid for hours afterward until I could finally coax them out.

Hope you find them soon. Crushed up tortilla chips brings all mine running to me (among other things). Might be worth a shot. Good luck! Let us know what happens!

Wehave a hawk that flies over our place several nights a week.
My girls free range everyday for 3-4 hours, but only supervised!
My golden retriever & black labby are with them also.
My golden thinks she is the mother to our 3 week old chicks, even though the have a momma.
We let then out around 6 or 7 each night, they go on to need when they are ready.
DH &I use the time to work on the coops & runs.

That would be fantastic! I haven't incubated anything yet, maybe if someone gets broody next spring. Let me know how your hatch goes. If you order eggs and they are all blue does that likely indicate the chicks (if pure bred) will grow to lay blue eggs?

Generally Whatever Color Egg The Chick Hatches From Is What Color EGg It Will Lay. Purebred Ameracauna Should Always Lay Blue Blueish Green. they Want Sky Blue. Wheaten/BlueWheaten AmeracauNa typically Have The Best Egg Color. Most Black StilL Have A Slight hint Of Green to Their Eggs.

In The Case Of My EE, Its The Reason We Keep Breeding Back To ameracauna Roos Each Generation. Trying To Get Add Blue As We Can With Eggs.

Haven't seen any if the missing ones, still try to listen to see if I hear the rooster crow, like they may be lost on the woods, but nothing. Crap.
My Great Dane was outside, but had just come up to the porch when all of this happened. She's deaf, but her nose works like crazy! The hawk was scouting I bet and when she left, he came I bet. Ugh.
The rooster had started to be not-so-nice to my kiddos, but I didn't want this to happen!
Definitely a lesson learned!
I am still trying to figure out how the one polish got on top of the coop though..... Thanks again everyone!

Loveourbirds, how do you administer the ivomec? If it is effective and available I will use it. My flock had no problems with any parasites and I would like to get these guys in good condition so they can be part of the flock. They are lethargic and not even social with one another.
I am really concerned, but I don't know if they are just lacking personality in general or if they are so compromised that they are non interactive.

we just had to treat ours last night with it. We got it at Tractor Supply get a eye dropper and it only takes a drop on the back of the neck. (or at least I hope we did it right!) We found ours have bird lice which has been so disappointing. We are still new to all this and learning as we go. While we had them those that looked like they had a little leg mites we put vetx on them. He also dusted them with seven and DE. We put that in the straw (which now I am thinking we need to get the pine shavings after reading this thread)

Also you need to toss the eggs for 5-7 days doing this.

Also I did notice some had dry wattles? What causes this?

ivomec is hard to overdose, within reason. I used the pour on and a 3 cc syringe with no needle. give small bantams 1/4 cc between the wings on the back of the neck - between where shoulder blades would be if a chicken had them. for large birds give 1/4 cc on the neck like the bantams, then 1/4 cc by their tail.

you have to get it on their skin, separate the feathers until you see the skin plain. don't let your chickens get wet for 24 hours after you give it - just to make sure it doesn't wash off.

as far as egg withdraw, one week for eating eggs; none for hatching eggs. fertility may be affected.
