OHio ~ Come on Buckeyes, let me know your out there!

This stuff is so Fascinating. It is a little to scientific for me, but I love hearing (reading?) you all talk about it.
don't let us talk you out of breeding chickens with all of our "scientific talk". some breeds are simple and straightforward, some require a descent amount of work to keep colors right. my main reason for throwing in the scientific end of it - is to explain to anyone who is thinking about breeding these colors that it's not straightforward. i always try to throw an any information that i can find to help you along.

i am not always right, its impossible to know about all genes in all breeds - or at least i think it is

. i know a select few that i deal with on a day to day basis here.

Get Swedish flower hens.you can let ask the different colors run together if you want, they lay large Brown eggs, and They are great free rangers. Have great personalities and come in any color you can imagine. Can you tell I love my SFH?

Sad night. I had thought that my sisters dog got a hold of my 3 month old Marans, so chased it off. Then when I came back up the driveway from taking the trash out, I noticed that Trickster (our Blue Cooper Marans) was getting one of my little gray marans I caught him in the action! So went and yelled for the DH (which I probably scared because he jumped up really quick) the gray one didn't make it either so in the pouring rain.. he skinned our first chicken. I personally wouldn't know what to do but at least my other 13 chicks are safe, even though I counted 19 yesterday I don't know where they all went =(

Thanks loveourbirds! I'm going to try to breed some buckeyes. Not real sure what I'm doing, but I have 1 hen and 5 roos, in which 4 are going to freezer camp soon. I already communicated with the breeder I purchased them from. She said I can use this roo for a couple of years and then need to get another one to keep the good line. Will see!! I still find the genetics fun to read about, so keep on throwing in any info you have!!

I looked up this breed and they are gorgeous! Do you sell these? I wonder if anyone will have any at the swap.

Your saying one of your bcm's killed another maran? Oh, wow! I'm so sorry. How old are the little grays? Hope you find the rest. Nothing so discouraging!!
