Healthy, active little thing, tossing his egg siblings around like bowling balls.

One more pipped. And the bad-aimer isn't looking too good, but I don't want to intervene yet.
Congrats!!!!!!!!!!!

awesome. No its not common for then to hatch early occasionally I get one here and there but usually not several. so what color does it fluff out to be?

Hm. I'll try bumping the temp down just a smidge next time. I think all 4 of this group are eager to see the world. Got one more out, the last one pipped, and the bad pip is still alive but not hurrying itself.
The first one fluffed out to be dark brown with some gold bits, mostly on his head. Very technical lingo there. :gig I feel like I've seen that coloration before in a chick but can't remember which one and how they turned out.. New one is still drying but looks white with some black bum splotches.

ETA:
The lighting in the incubator is crap so it's hard to get good pics if his (? DH decided to call it Rupert for lord-knows-why) color without getting him out which I don't want to do yet. It's a pretty typical color, I think. Sort of like gold-laced babies, but not exactly. So cute!

Second one is white with a couple random black feathers.

And we now have a third! I had to help this one out, it struggled for a long time and seemed to be giving up so I chipped a zip starter for him and he managed to shove through. Looks to be the same color as #2. No good pics yet.

Hello from a transplanted Ohioan living in Louisiana.

For the past several weeks I have been waging a war against the city council of Roswell Ohio (just outside of New Philadelphia Ohio in Tuscarawas County) to keep an ordinance from banning all livestock (including chickens) from the city. My sister's family lives just within city limits and my niece (who wants to be a chicken lady like Aunt RahRah) has a small flock of 4 Production Reds and 2 ducks she purchased from Tractor Supply this spring.

I made a petition on Change.org, which can be seen here...https://www.change.org/petitions/roswell-ohio-city-council-stop-the-new-ordinance-banning-chickens-2 a couple weeks ago. This morning, the local paper did a FRONT page story about this...see the lead story.

Here is a link to the full text of the story...http://www.timesreporter.com/topsto...s-plan-to-ban-all-farm-animals-in-the-village

They are having a council meeting next week and I will be printing off the petition as well as a fairly comprehensive legal dossier supplied by Salemchickens.com (changed to suit the situation) for my sister to take the to meeting.

I would REALLY appreciate it if you all could take a moment and sign the petition at the link above. Although all the signatures from around the country and world help, local ones from people residing in Ohio will apply the most pressure to these elected officials. I already have them wallowing in bad publicity, so now is the best chance we have to get this stopped.

Thanks in advance for your help and have a wonderful day!

what kind of chicks are these ???????
They're just your average EE/OE

Of the adorable variety. :p

4/4 that made it to lockdown are hatched and well. :D I had planned to bring most to the swap to appease DH, but he's surprisingly into this hatch as much as I am. I may just get to keep them. Muahaha.
3 whites and one dark. These 3 are very photogenic lol. The other is camera-shy.

I grew up in city limits where we couldn't have a single chicken and hated it. Everyone should have the right to an extent.

Thank you ShayBaby!

Yes, their should be no need for this ordinance as long as folks doesn't infringe on neighbors or their rights: Common sense and courtesty should dictate (although we all know that rarely happens). I could completely see the city instituting limits on how many animals of each type per acre and limiting or banning roosters as those things make sense from a city planning standpoint. However, a blanket ban when the smallest lot is typically well over 3/4 acre is silly: My sister has 3 acres at her place.

I also grew up "in town" where the lots were around 1/4 acre or much smaller and their were no livestock type animals allowed. I have always wanted property and animals and now at 44 finally have them....a lot of them...lol. The chicken math got me first, then the waterfowl equations, followed by the turkey trig! I would end up a crazy old pigeon lady who sits in the park and feeds birds all day every day if I ever had to get rid of them all!

Have a great day and thanks again!
