Today was a bad day so I took a sneak peek into the incubator. Didn't help. Out of 27 eggs I only saw development in 14 & 2 of those were questionable. Knew the showgirls would be bad but I still left all of them in there because it was only day 4. Hopefully I just missed something.

I never candle anymore before day 10. I've thrown out a lot of eggs I thought were no good when I later figured out they were just slower to develop. I wouldn't toss anything (unless it stinks)until at least day 7for white or light eggs and day 10 for dark.

Well figured out something tonight that has been boggling my mind. My 6 ameraucana pullets has nice fluffy beards and all if a sudden they are getting thin ragged out looking beards. Well apparently when their beards get wet, they pluck them out of each other! It's not the other breeds in there either doing it, they are doing it to each other. It's mainly the 4 black pullets, the 2blue seem to stay out of it. Stupid birds.

I candled my shipped eggs today too I didn't see anything but put them back and hoping to look again before lock down. Hope they turn out for you!

i guess i should tell you what's going on. we bought our farm on land contract, we had it paid down to just a few thousand dollars. the original owners filed bankruptcy, and we found out they owed by far more than we do (10's of thousands). we have invested everything we have for the most part into getting this farm started.

where we stand right now: our last check in the bank - maybe enough to deal with the bank, but if we deal with the bank we wont have enough to feed the flock through the winter. i have been working for my brother some to keep things afloat until we figure out whats going on.

our other option is to walk away with that same check, sell our flock and barn and un-needed belongs and retire fully, or maybe move to Canada. we are so afraid of what is going on in this country, and the fact that if we save our farm the government can just take it if they decide to. i love this country, and i support our troops. i just dont trust our government any more.

is it wrong to try and get away while we still can?

We owna second house & are seeking on a land contact, but had it drawn up by our lawyer

it was a "rent to own" contract made up by the original owner, and notarized. our only hope is to go back on them for the money we paid, but it appears the court will just say its "rent". and since they are filing bankruptcy, we will probably never get our money back anyways.

there are ways we can make this farm work, and stay here with our flock. i really do love these chickens. that is what is making the decision so hard. i really dont know what we are going to do, we just keep talking in circles. we do have several options, its just trying to make the right decision.

if we did stay and keep this farm afloat until spring, it will have a descent income. but one disease could wipe us out.

i keep asking myself what risk is bigger.

sorry i dont mean to be whining to you guys, you asked why; so i told you. if we do decide to sell, i will let you guys know first.

Don't think you are whining. Hell we basically talk everyday. It was a nice place for me to vent about my DD.
They are turning everything around us into retail property. Waiting for them to try and take ours.
