Oh, anyone ever had a 6 week old cockerel crow? I have and it's HILARIOUS! I've never had one crow that young. Heck, he still peeps. No real chicken noises other than the sad attempt at crowing. If he does it again I'm going to take video of it. He's so proud of himself. It's the CCL cockerel I hatched here.

One my Araucanas started crowing at 5 weeks. I couldn't believe it! He's still with mom two weeks later, but he crows every morning. There's such a difference among bloodlines too. I had one last year that didn't start crowing until he was almost 7 months old. I had thought he was a boy early on, but then I spent a week wondering if he was really a pullet. Nope!

Good evening! I'm located in Cincinnati, so southwest Ohio. No chickens yet, but I'm looking for any great places to purchase bantams this upcoming spring! I would like to raise them from chicks, but I can't have any roosters, according to the city rules. Are there any great hatcheries or breeders nearby that can sex a days-old bantam chick?

I'm nervous ordering from MyPetChicken, who does sex their bantam chicks, so I'm hoping there is a hidden, secret hatchery within the state that has what I need!

Bantam breeds I'm interested in: silkies, cochins, easter eggers, buff brahmas, and barred plymouth rock bantams.

Shido, for commercial hatcheries check out Meyer Hatchery which is in Polk, OH -- they do a really nice job and have sturdy, healthy birds. They won't be breeder-quality, but I've been very happy with every bird I've had from them over the years
