I'm not sure what the ivomec pour on is. I do use acv and I have given yogurt. I like this. What water soluble vitamins do you give. I have some that murray mcmurray send with new chicks. It's called quick chics Vitamin and electrolytes for poultry. Would that work? I think I have duramycin some where. If it isn't outdated. I will have to look.
ivomec pour on is actually for cattle, it treats both internal and external parasites. if you decide to use it, make sure you get it on the skin of the chicken - it wont work if you just get it on the feathers. if you eat your eggs i dont know if i would go this route. i dont notice any problems with fertility or hatchability with it.

that quick chicks will work, i just use the stuff tsc sells. i am 99% sure its a durvet product.

That's great advice Brian! I usually just keep new birds very separate and watch them for awhile (if they're coming from you I'm not too worried!). I need to put something like this into effect from now on..

even if they came from me i would still quarantine them. i do everything i can to keep this flock healthy, but everyone who has chickens is going to have trouble sometime. with as many as we have here, someone somewhere is almost always under "special care". usually its something simple like bumblefoot or egg binding, but we have had our share of other troubles.

the reason i am so strict on quarantining is because i did pick up some chickens infected with coryza. 8 chickens caused me to lose 12 and cull 4 more. had i quarantined the way i explained above, i would have just lost the original 8.

So last night I noticed my golden comet is looking a little thin, upon further investigation she is wheezy and sneezing. I have heard her sneeze before but never thought it was more than dust. Now I think I have been neglectful or ignorant of a problem. I have no idea what to do, what do I give her, how much? How is it given and should I treat everyone? I only have quick access to what's available at TSC but can get anything else on the Internet. Thanks for any help guys I am freaking out a little.

He is awesome! Very beautiful. I've not seen an Isbar in person. Good pics!

Thanks, OHhappychicks! (great username, btw!) I really like them -- they're very pretty, fun birds, and the eggs are AWESOME! I had to take a bunch of pictures to get the six or seven that turned out decent, but it was worth it :)

Yeah, I had the same experience in July and August with a couple of my breeds -- they just slowed way down. Talking with other chicken owners in the area, apparently that was true for a lot of people. I don't know, maybe it was atmospheric or something. Now everybody's going like gangbusters again -- plus some of my spring pullets just "came online" too. Yay!!! Still waiting on the coronations, though... those guys take forever!

I was going to give her time to get settled in. I'm sure she will be fine. I have them in a tractor. I put a nesting box in there for her. I'm keeping them separated from my flock for a couple of weeks. Do you quarantine your new birds when you get them? I've always read, you should quarantine them for 4 weeks. I always have, but I've never had any problems with the new birds.

Absolutely yes, quarantine!!! It's one of those things that either you make a habit of now, or you make a habit of after the one darn time you bring home something and it infects all your birds. You might never have a problem bringing in new birds -- the question is, do you want to risk every bird you have on the offchance of being wrong?

I've got one little chicken tractor that's just for new birds; they stay in the front yard a good 100 yards from my other birds, who are out behind the barn (and in the barn, and the kitchen, and sometimes my bedroom...) lol!

Eek! Wheezing is never a good sign. I'm not even going to guess -- there's too many things it might be. Tylan is a good broad-spectrum antibiotic; it might be worth trying. Here's a page to scare you silly: http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/ps044 -- don't get too freaked out! It might be nothing. But that'll give you some idea of common diseases and their signs. Problem is with chickens, a lot of disease symptoms look very similar.
