I'm not sure DH will want to come that far! What day again? I would love to come, but if I can get them here I might just wait. I will talk it over with DH. I will map it to see how far that is from me.

When I got her, it was early Sunday morning and they still had quite a few, so I would guess they don't go too fast, but I'd get there Friday morning (prepare for traffic!!) if possible, just in case. Or I know quite a few folks go in Friday evening when the vendors are setting up to get the best quality stuff, but the prices are supposedly higher, understandably. I'm usually there for hours Saturday and Sunday; if you couldn't make it down until Sunday, I'd happily report back if I saw any there, but if you can handle suffocating crowds, I recommend going anyways! All kinds of fun things to see.

We may have to come. It will be Fri or Sat. Thanks! blessedchick has dangled the carrot (or should I say showgirl!) to be a great temptation! I will let you know when the time comes. More than likely I will be in Lucasville. Maybe we can meet up there and you can show me where they are, if they are there at all. I've never been there before. We know a lot of people who do.

I've used ivermectin with great success once a year for the past couple years. I dewormed every chicken and duck (except three call ducks, didn't have time yet) 3 weeks ago today. Kills internal and external. Plus i sweat egg production had picked up after i dewormed this time. Just throw away eggs for 3-4 weeks as it will be fine to use.

Can you use it when they are molting? Ours aren't laying right at the moment. A couple are molting for sure. Bantys should be of the age to molt or will be soon. My copper maran is the only one laying right now. An egg every other day or so. This would be a good time I guess. I hate to throw eggs out! Should I give it to the younger ones too? They are 14-18 weeks old.

Molting would be a great time to do it! That way you do not have to worry about eggs being trashed. I would do the younger ones, just base the dosage off of their size. If they are tiny like bantams than use the .25CC dose. My d'uccle who were only about 12 weeks at the time did fine with the .25CC dose and they are tiny. I did my 16+ week old large fowl birds at the .5CC dosage and they took it fine. The three older one you got from me were done 3 weeks ago today so you can do them if you want again but I did treat them already. I do not treat chicks less than 6 weeks so the little ones of course were not done.

You could treat everyone except for the one(s) who are laying and that way you still get your egg and then do those birds later when they molt. This method only works of course as long as you do not have external parasites that can go from bird to bird.

Definitely. Let me know if you'd like to meet up come closer to the day; I'm bound to forget. :p

So last night I noticed my golden comet is looking a little thin, upon further investigation she is wheezy and sneezing. I have heard her sneeze before but never thought it was more than dust. Now I think I have been neglectful or ignorant of a problem. I have no idea what to do, what do I give her, how much? How is it given and should I treat everyone? I only have quick access to what's available at TSC but can get anything else on the Internet. Thanks for any help guys I am freaking out a little.

the tylan that cluckitall recommended works wonders, if you dont do it already give 1 tablespoon of ACV in the water for 3-5 days. along with the tylan. make sure the ACV is raw.

7 dust will only work on external parasites. (i know this will start an argument) DE is worthless for chicken parasites, i have recently done alot of research on it. they only way it will kill lice and mites is if you literally smother them with it, as far as worms you would have to feed so much to the chicken that it would kill it by either dehydration or internal bleeding. however small amounts of DE in the water will help with feed to weight gain ratios, and may strengthen bones in cornish rocks.

you can try tobacco, make sure its dry. break up a cigarette onto a piece of paper. when the tobacco crumbles easily, crumble it into small (pepper sized) pieces. sprinkle small amounts onto the feed. use as small amounts as you think is sufficient, chickens can overdose on nicotine pretty easily. egg withdraw is one week

unfortunately no matter what you use to treat for worms- if it is effective its a poison. you will have to throw them out for a period of time.

someone else may have better advice on this, but if they arent looking sickly or expelling worms i wouldnt treat. some worms are good for chicken health, just like some bacteria are good for us. most chickens will have a few worms, sometimes its more risky to use a poison to get rid of them than it is to leave them.
