OHio ~ Come on Buckeyes, let me know your out there!

So sorry Shaybaby! Were there any signs? Makes me want to go check my flock!  Saw your pics.  Love the Showgirls! Do you ever hatch any to sell?

Thanks, happychicks. For me, there were no signs at all other than the two almost-instant "mystery" deaths. It was when I was burying the last one that I noticed a single tiny bug run across her face, so I lifted a wing and  dozens of the things. When I sprayed the whole flock (including ducks) down tonight I checked them too because I'd never seen any signs on anyone and I found them on almost all of them. :th I'm almost glad it's lice and not mites, but still wish I'd caught it before they had a chance to take out the two little ones.

I'm just getting started with the showgirls so I don't right now, but hopefully will be next spring. :D

UGH. I lost two of my favorite chickens in the last three days and wondered what the heck was going on. These are chickens I tote around constantly and have never noticed anything on them. The little one that died earlier, in my arms, after it passed I noticed a little something crawling on it so I looked closer and it was covered in tiny white bugs! Lice!? How the heck did they get those? Guess the DE doesn't work on those after all.. My poor babies. Looks like a hefty trip to TSC tomorrow to pick up any kind of sevin, permethrin, ivermectin and any other products I can find to kill the nasties. Going out to spray everyone and everything with some Adams flea spray I just happen to have lying around now..

Shaybaby - i am sooo sorry - it does seem it is always your favorite!!!

Oh Brian, you and your knowledge will be missed terribly. Hope all is well with you and that your move is going well. Drop in and see us every so often. You will me missed. Jane

Seems like an inappropriate time, but I wanted to update on the lice fiasco before I forget. I checked on every bird this morning when I let them out before my trip to TSC to make sure I hadn't lost anymore overnight to the bugs or the flea spray. I couldn't find a single bug anywhere! So that off-brand (wasn't even Adams after all) flea spray did the trick! Easiest infestation ever! I got some sevin dust anyways, just in case, and to do again in a couple weeks when any nit eggs hatch, and made them up a nice wood ash dust bath. Fingers crossed they stay away and we don't have to deal with any more parasites this winter. :fl I'll be quarantining very carefully any new birds from Swap Days or the poultry show.

I also have a pip in my one lonely little quail egg due today! :ya If you're still around, thank you Brian! Only 10 of my shipped 32, due Saturday or Sunday, are looking somewhat..maybe alive.., so I'm so hoping this little guy makes it!
